Julie was a dedicated HR Manager held in high regard in the Chattanooga, TN. She truly loved each employee she served in every HR role she had over the course of her 30 year career.
Julie had been working very long hours for a few months and felt run down when she decided to finally go to her doctor to find out what might be wrong. An MRI was ordered In December 2024 and Julie was diagnosed with aggressive Liver Cancer. Without treatment, she had 6-12 months to live – no time to waste.
Her doctors brought in a Transplant team from UAB and together they devised a treatment plan that would treat in phases and give her more time to recover and heal before any further treatments. She is being carefully monitored by her medical team for recurrence or spread of cancer and changes in her liver’s ability to compensate and function as she awaits the gift of a transplant.
What is hard about the situation?
Physically, there is Neuropathy, inability to clot blood, abdominal pain, sleep disturbances, changes in skin, and severe fatigue. There is also quite an emotional toll that is unspoken when facing such medical diagnosis. The coupling of physical limitations, emotional distress, depression and anxiety, this past year has been very trying. She reaches to her husband, sons, and her family for support and distraction and they do the best they can.
Julie stays as active as she can in the garden and house to keep her mind positive. She even started a plant stand for her community to buy plants to raise funds on her own as she no longer had an income. However, fatigue takes her over quite a bit each day more and more.
With a cancer diagnosis and the need for a liver transplant, there are always expenses not covered by insurance. Help Hope Live disburses the funds raised in her honor to cover the cost of medical expenses that can include, temporary relocation for recuperation, co-pays, medication (including immunosuppressant lifelong and are very costly), emergency living expenses and any additional medical expenses related to her diagnosis.
