Many of you know my loving wife, Robin Myers. She is a wonderful mother and stepmother, has an infectious spirit and desire to help others. She loves to garden, spend time with family, friends, and her dogs. What most of you do not know is that she is battling End Stage Renal Disease.
Every day is a struggle and her future is unclear. Her health is declining and her doctors at The University of North Carolina Hospital have told us that she is now in need of a life-saving kidney transplant. She is currently on the active waiting list for this transplant and is also searching for a living donor.
Such life-giving surgery comes at a high cost both medically and financially. The operation itself and the many doctor visits before and after are only partially covered by insurance. In addition, Robin will be on a lifetime of expensive anti-rejection medications. It is hard to watch her bravely move forward knowing her quality of life – even her very survival – is a financial decision as much as a medical one.
In order to ease the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Robin’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution today.Your support is crucial! A fundraising committee has been formed and we are planning several exciting and fun events. Any ideas or help you can give is welcome!
On behalf of Robin, myself and our family, we thank you for your kindness, generosity and support.

Hi Friends and Family! Great News! On Feburary 3, 2015, I received a kidney from a dear friend, Lori Kykendall. She and I both did pretty well...were up walking quickly and visiting one another. She was in the hospital for four days, and I was in for six...mainly to get anti-rejection meds regulated. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your prayers and support. I thank my sister Lori for my life - she gave me a precious gift...she is my Angel!!! I pray sincerely that there are other Angels out there to help others in need of organ donation...Please, consider giving the gift of life!!!
Hi Everyone. I am so negligent when it comes to updates. So much has happened since my last update. At the time, I had a donor, my husband's cousin. When they took her back to the operating room, they we unable to complete the surgery because of something they found during the prep. Since then, I have started home hemo-dialysis. In May I started learning the process...scary to say the least. Now it is just a part of my life. I have a dialysis machine in my house where I perform treatments five days a week. Joe and John are troopers and can help me with treatments. My friend Geri Huntsinger, a Registered Nurse, helps me most days so my guys do not have to be exposed to it everyday. I am able to "cannulate" myself...fancy words for I stick myself. If I had a third arm I could do everything myself...that's what Geri says. I want it that way to ease the effort my family has to make day after day.
I have gotten on the transplant list with Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, as well as Chapel Hill. I have a friend who is in the testing process. We can use all the prayers we can get! I would love to be a "normal" person again...for as long as possible...right now...I'm a tired person most of the time.
I so much appreciate the donations and notes of support from friends and loved ones. I pray one day to thank you all in person!
Love and Blessings,
Robin
Hi faithful friends and family! Great news!!!! My husband Joe's cousin, Diane Stroo, is a match for kidney donation. We have both had our workups at Chapel Hill, and they have approved us for a transplant!!!!! Praise our Wonderful God!!!!
Right now, we do not have a firm date, but it will between then end of March and the 8th of April. I am blown away by the generosity of my friends and family and so much appreciate the donations. Looks like they will be put to good use sooner than later.
Diane lives in Hattiesburg, MS. Her father and Joe's father were brothers. She is a beautiful, loving woman with a heart for God. I am truly blessed!
I would like to ask that you all continue to keep Diane and her family, and me and my family in your prayers. Our God is an Awesome God!!!!
Friends and Family! Want to thank those who helped make the yard sale a great success - especially John and Antonia Ban. Geri Huntsinger, and Doug Kreiger. The first sale was huge, and on a rainy, stormy day. My Missional Community from Church was such a blessing, so was the entire church - tons of donations!!! Special thanks on that day for my wonderful husband who stood out by the road in the pouring rain in a bright yellow raincoat holding a sign!!! With his beard he looked like the Gordon's Fisherman! Special thanks that day to Vicki McMillian, Geri and the Ban's again, and Lori and Alan! If I missed anyone, well my memory ain't what it used to be! God Bless you all!!!!
Hi Robin, I'm not sure if you remember me (Jay Hudson's daughter). I used to work at the Eastern region. I wish you all the best and will keep you and your family in my prayers.
