A 64-year-old retired grandmother requires life-saving open-heart surgery to repair a dangerous aortic aneurysm.
Maureen Wood has been diagnosed with a 5.7 cm ascending aortic aneurysm, a serious and potentially life-threatening enlargement of the main artery leaving the heart. Doctors have determined that open-heart surgery is necessary. Delaying this surgery to repair the aneurysm could lead to a potentially fatal rupture or dissection of the aneurysm.
The hospital has scheduled her surgery for March 25, 2026.
Unfortunately, Maureen currently has no health insurance, and her urgent need for surgery makes her situation even more critical. She is forced to confront both a medical emergency and a severe financial burden at the same time. She cannot safely wait until Medicare coverage begins before having this life-saving operation.
Maureen is a loving mother to one son and one daughter, and a proud grandmother to two wonderful grandchildren who mean the world to her. Like any parent and grandparent, she hopes to be here to watch her family grow, celebrate milestones, and enjoy many more years together.
Facing a life-threatening diagnosis is frightening enough. The additional financial burden of major open-heart surgery without insurance makes this situation even harder.
How You Can Help
Open-heart surgery requires comprehensive care both before and after the procedure, and your support through this fundraiser will help ensure that Maureen receives the life-saving treatment she urgently needs and can focus on healing.
Your kindness and generosity can help Maureen get this surgery and continue to be the loving mother and grandmother her family values. Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for any support you can offer.
All donations through this fundraiser are tax-deductible in the US, and all funds go directly to HELP HOPE LIVE, a registered US 501(c)(3) charity. HHL will use the donations to cover Maureen’s medical expenses. Donations do not go directly to Maureen; instead, HELP HOPE LIVE will use the donations to pay for medical bills related to her surgery, treatment, and recovery costs, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps bring Maureen closer to the care she needs. If donating isn’t possible, praying for her and sharing her fundraiser with others can still make a big difference.
Thank you for your support
I wanted to share a quick update—my surgery is now scheduled for April 29th. After a few delays due to infection, things are finally moving forward again. It’s been a long and emotional road getting to this point, but I’m holding onto hope and doing everything I can to stay strong and ready. Your support, prayers, and kindness have meant more to me than I can put into words. Truly, it has helped carry me through some very difficult moments. As I get closer to surgery day, I’m feeling a mix of nerves and gratitude—grateful to have a date, grateful for the care I’m receiving, and especially grateful for each of you who has stood by me.Thank you for continuing to keep me in your thoughts. I will keep you all updated as I get closer and after surgery. With love and appreciation,Maureen
I wanted to share a quick but important update.Unfortunately, my surgery has been postponed again due to an infection caused by complications from a recent root canal. My doctors feel it’s safest to fully clear the infection before proceeding with such a major operation. My surgery is now tentatively scheduled for April 22nd.While this delay has been hard, I am staying hopeful and focused on getting healthy enough for surgery. These setbacks also extend my medical journey and the support I need along the way.I am so grateful for every prayer, message, and donation — your kindness is carrying me through more than you know. Thank you for continuing to stand by me during this time. I will keep you updated as I move forward.
Update: We’ve had a change in timing, but not in urgency.Maureen’s life-saving heart surgery has been postponed until April 8 due to an infection following a recent root canal. While this delay is necessary to ensure her safety during surgery, it also means more time navigating uncertainty, additional medical care, and continued risk as she waits. The aneurysm has not gone away, and the need for surgery is still critical. Right now, the focus is on clearing the infection so she can safely undergo this major operation. If you’ve already donated, shared, or reached out—thank you. Your support truly matters. If you’ve been meaning to help, there is still time to make a difference. Every share and contribution helps ease the burden and brings her one step closer to getting through this. Please continue to keep Maureen in your thoughts and prayers as she prepares for surgery on April 8. ❤️
