On March 25th I will be having a major surgery with the intentions of acheiving a better quality of life and increased independance. It is called a mitrofanoff with a bladder augmentation. Recovery will be long and arduous, but the benefits will be worth it. I’ve done a lot of research and spoke with many people who have also had this surgery, and they all say the same thing: that it was the best decision they have made since their injury.
Much has happened since my last update. I am now driving independently and have found fulfillment through part- time work consulting with various non–profits. I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to work with so many therapies and healing modalities not covered by insurance. They have helped tremendously with pain and gaining function, but I can longer afford to keep up with them. But, I have my handcycle and fitness classes to keep me healthy and fit! The big news is that I am planning on a significant surgery at the end of February that will dramatically change my life. It is called a mitroffanoff with a bladder augmentation. The recovery will be challenging, so I am hoping to raise funds to cover physical therapy and in home care immediately following the surgery. Any contribution would be so helpful to making this journey a success. Thank you!
Heartworks, an Act of Kindness organization from my hometown, has created a matching fund campaign to help defray the costs of the new van. This amazing organization is matching up to $6,000 on all donations given until August 26th! Thank you Heartworks for being my hero!
On June 23rd I got a phone call that will profoundly and postively impact my life! I won a brand new, fully converted mobility van that I will be able to drive myself! This was one of three vans awarded in a contest that I entered in May. Many, many people voted for throughout the month to get me in the top 10% and then an independent panel of judges chose the finalists!!Trevor and I are just stunned at this tremendous gift. It is the work of many hands and I can’t wait to use this van to be more involved with my community and reach out to others! With this blessing does come financial responsibilities and we are hoping this blessing does not become a burden. Any and all help is received with utmost gratitude!
Thank you for your support!

Cynthia - I heard of your story through Heartworks. The women there are wonderful, and helped my sister's family through a horrible ordeal. I hope that my small donation can help you get the support that you need.
