Kim is a very courageous daughter, sister, wife, friend and loving mother to her son and stepsons. At the age of 29, Kim was diagnosed with Lupus. A few years later, the disease had affected her kidneys and she needed the life-saving treatment of dialysis. After a year, Kim received the “Gift of Life”, a new kidney, from her very generous sister, Dani. Two years after the transplant, Kim gave birth to a healthy son, Seth. For the past 21 years, with her very healthy kidney, Kim has never stopped working full time in the field of animal health, and has rescued and adopted many animals.
After many healthy and wonderful years, Kim’s transplanted kidney is now beginning to fail. She is looking at a future of dialysis again or another transplant. Fortunately, for Kim, she has an amazing friend, Wendy. Wendy, who had witnessed the first round of illness, dialysis, and transplant, understood that Kim was in trouble. Wendy realized that she was a perfect candidate to help her friend, and resolved that this was what she wanted to do. Miraculously, Wendy has tested as being a close match for Kim.
Kim is fortunate to have supportive family and friends, but transplants, however, are extremely expensive, and costs can be devastating. Even with insurance, the cost of uninsured transplant expenses can be staggering for things such as: high deductibles, co-payments for the multiple doctors’ appointments, immunosuppressant medications for life, travel expenses, and medical supplies.
To help with some of these uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in Kim’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for over 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. When considering your donation, please think of Dani’s and Wendy’s generosity.

At times like this, the help of family, friends and the community is crucial to help ensure a successful outcome. It’s never easy to ask for assistance, but funding Kim’s transplant is a difficult challenge and we need your help. Your financial gifts and good wishes will be greatly appreciated.
