Dear Family and Friends,
As some of you may know, Michael was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The cancer has progressed even more rapidly than predicted. In mid-July, he started aggressive chemo-therapy, but at this point, his doctors at Seattle Cancer Care have told him that without a bone marrow transplant, he will die.
Michael is a devoted husband and father, who loves his family above all else. He has a heart for helping others, even through this particularly trying time. He is a self-described “geek” who frequently volunteers his many technical and electronic skills to help out others. Many times he has been called upon to fix computer or electronic problems for friends and family members, and he has always happily done so. He also volunteers many hours as a 4-H leader, teaching kids of all ages Robotics and Electronics.
A bone marrow transplant could save his life, but it is also extremely expensive. Even with insurance, there are many out-of-pocket costs, such as: deductibles, co-pays and co-insurances; travel and relocation at the time of transplant; living donor costs, and the costly medications he will have to take for the rest of his life. The uninsured expenses our family will face will be at least $20,000. All of this presents a challenge our family cannot meet without your help.
In order ease the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Michael’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. If you wish to help Michael, then please consider making a contribution. Thanks for your support!
