My daughter Savana, 23, was a junior at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA studying East Asian Studies in May 2011 when her small intestine developed a knot, cut off the blood supply and subsequently died. It immediately had to be removed and now, Savana’s only chance for survival is a small intestine transplant.
Savana is currently on medical leave from school and has moved back home to Lakebay, WA while awaiting a transplant at the University of Washington Medical Center. She is constantly nauseous and she must receive all her nutrition from her nightly IV. All her medications and hydration is also through her IV. Because of the IV nutrition, she is now is need of a liver as well.
While Savana has insurance, there are still many uninsured expenses related to the transplant such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel to and from the transplant center, and the costly immunosuppressant medications she will have to take for the rest of her life.
To help offset some of these expenses, a fundraising campaign in Savana’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live. Help Hope Live is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only. Please help Savana by making a tax-deductible contribution.
Thank you so much for your help during this difficult journey.
Sincerely,
Cathy Oberts

Received transplant on August 16, 2016.
Graduated college in July 2019
I received my transplant on August 8, 2016. I have had complications caused by the post transplant medications, but my overall health is much better. I would like to thank everyone for their support!
Looks like Savana may be getting her transplant tomorrow. She's been waiting over 5 years.
Savana is now waiting for a duel transplant. She needs both a small intestine and a liver. Her liver was damaged due to the IV nutrition that she needs to survive.
She is still at home and actively on the list.
She has started making jewelry to stay busy while she waits.

I read about your operation in the Key Peninsula News, and felt I had to help as a fellow Key Peninsula resident in a tangible way towards your medical bills. I have a daughter now in college, and can only imagine how this has affected the entire family. But please know that your recovery and health is in my family's prayers and thoughts - God bless you.

I was so honored to be part of the committee planning, preparing and holding the fundraiser for you at Volunteer Park. My biggest honor was finally meeting you in person. You have such a lovely, upbeat personality and immediately captured my heart. My prayers are for your complete healing and recovery, and also includes your lovely family. You are an amazing young lady.

Hi Savana! KPCares is very happy to be holding a fundraiser for you at Volunteer Park on Saturday August 30, 2014, from about 12noon to 5pm, although people will be there early preparing food and setting up. We'll have food and fun and games, for adults and children. It'd be a good place to bring some of your lovely jewelry! Can't wait to see you there.
