Seven years ago my mother, Lanida Oliver, had a double lung transplant. I know your first thought was “Wow, was she a smoker?” Actually no, in 2006 she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis of the Lungs. In laymen’s terms it’s a life threatening disease that affects the respiratory system.

On August 12, 2011 she was called by her doctors at the Mayo Clinic, in Jacksonville FL; her new lungs were ready. After 8 hours of surgery, she had a new set of lungs. She stayed in intensive care for 2 weeks. We were told by the doctors that she would have to take a lot of medication for the rest of her life, and that the transplant doesn’t normally last past 7 years.

Around 1 month ago I had acute liver failure caused by wilson's disease. I got an emergency liver transplant. It is very rare for my age (19) and I am extremely lucky it all worked out. My insurance covered the transplant. I am a musician, the music venue 924 Gilman in Berkeley CA put on a benefit show for me. I donating all the money raised at the show to HHL, but I wanted to make a specific donation just to your mom. Goodluck to both of you! - Jon
