On August 12, 2011 she was called by her doctors at the Mayo Clinic, in Jacksonville FL; her new lungs were ready. After 8 hours of surgery, she had a new set of lungs. She stayed in intensive care for 2 weeks. We were told by the doctors that she would have to take a lot of medication for the rest of her life, and that the transplant doesn’t normally last past 7 years.
It has been 7 years, since that day and she is doing great. My mom diets, works out and makes every doctor appointment regularly to maintain the health of her new lungs. She also has to be extremely careful of who is around her, because she has no immune system. She takes 14 different prescriptions daily.
Seven years later, we have almost deplenished all of the monies raised for her transplant and medications. While my mom has health insurance, many transplant expenses are surprisingly not covered. Such medicines like her anti-rejection medication are vital to keep her alive.
Donations to Help Hope Live can help ease the financial burden. We appreciate any amount that is given. My mom’s prayer is to see me married with children before she leaves this earth. Please help me keep that prayer alive.
Lanida has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to her contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses.
To make a contribution to Lanida’s fundraising campaign, click the “GIVE” button. And please consider sharing this link with others so they may donate as well.
Thank you for your prayers, support, and generosity.

Around 1 month ago I had acute liver failure caused by wilson's disease. I got an emergency liver transplant. It is very rare for my age (19) and I am extremely lucky it all worked out. My insurance covered the transplant. I am a musician, the music venue 924 Gilman in Berkeley CA put on a benefit show for me. I donating all the money raised at the show to HHL, but I wanted to make a specific donation just to your mom. Goodluck to both of you! - Jon
