Dear Friends and Family of Walter & Judy Porter:
On February 22, 2012 Walter Porter, a devoted husband and friend was diagnosed with Leukemia. Walter is a hard worker for Christ – before he became ill he loved driving the church van for the youth and working hard in his church. Walter also loved working in his yard during the summer and takes great pride in beautifying it. The leukemia diagnosis has prevented Walter from doing the things he loves and he hasn’t been able to continue his job as a Supervisor and Painter for Supply Chain.
With the support of his family, friends and the strength of his faith in GOD, Walter remains steadfast in his hope for a blessing of complete recovery. Encouragingly, Walter received the gift of life – a bone marrow transplant – on July 10 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. This transplant will hopefully ensure Walter’s recovery and return to the things he loves.
The last few months, however, have been incredibly challenging for the Porters – they have been challenged emotionally, physically and financially. As the Porter’s family, friends, and church family continue to offer prayer and encouragement during this most difficult time, we can also help them financially. Even with health insurance, Walter faces numerous uninsured expenses. Due to the extraordinary expense the bone marrow transplant, donor testing, medical deductibles, travel and relocation expenses, and costly medications Walter will have to take for the rest of his life, fundraising is vital to the overall success of Walters struggle to survive.
In order to ease the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Walter’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the North Central Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a donation:If you have any questions about any fundraising efforts do not hesitate to contact me. We are always looking for volunteers to share their time, energy and ideas.

The prayers, friendship and assistance provided by family, friends, and faithful church members is greatly appreciated by Walter and Judy. Thank you for our generosity and desire to help.
Sincerely,
Shar’Ron Ford

I pray that God will continue blessing you and Judy.I'm glad that the transplant is over. Trusting that God has great things in store for you, I can't wait until you're back at church singing and shouting for Jesus. We might even get a solo. God has truly blessed me with the opportunity of having the chance to have a hand in helping with your fundraiser. This gives me a chance to give back, it's a way to thank God for all the times that he has spared my life.I know what it's like to be in a hospital at the mercy of others. You will have good days, you will have bad days but through it all God will see you through. When either of you get down and need to talk I'm just a phone call away. That 90 days will seem like forever, you have to find ways to make the time go fast. Sometimes no matter how bad things seem,we have do all in our power to make things seem better, and sometimes that makes them better. We have to get up when we don't feel like getting up.We have to laugh when we don't feel like laughing.Sometimes we also have to cry, it's ok to cry, sometimes crying can be good for the sole.A long hospital stay is never any fun, I know I was in the hospital from July 14,1984 until the middle of December 1984, I had to return in March of 1985 and stay for another 45 days. I found ways to help other patients in doing that I was able to focus more on others and less on myself, I belive that helped my healing. I took care of myself. but I didn't have time to feel sorry for myself . Ask God to give you the strength that you need to take some of the focus off of Walter and Judy and spend that time focusing on those around you. You can always find someone that needs to hear a word from you,you can share a word from the lord. I promise you that if you do all you can to help other patients and families, your healing will come faster and your time that you have to be away from home will go fast. You and Judy have a strong love for each other, you have a for better or worse in sickness and health love Let God use the two of you to pass that on to others. While at Barnes and Hope House let God use the two of you to make a difference in the life of someone else. Love you and praying for both of you.
