Many of you know my wife, Joanne Prokop. We have been married for 32 years, have 3 children Chris, Rachel, Jennifer and have 5 grandchildren. Joanne enjoys camping, many forms of exercise, working in the yard, cooking, baking and spending time with family and friends. While still being able to work as a school bus driver, she can no longer do many of the things she has always enjoyed doing due to her declining health and low energy.
Joanne suffers from Polycystic Kidney Disease. This is a genetic disease which attacks the kidneys. Her doctors at Virginia Mason Medical Center have told us that her only option is a life-saving kidney transplant.
This brings me to the purpose of this letter. Not only is a transplant major surgery, it is also very expensive. Even with insurance there are many expenses that must be covered out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the transplant center; relocation at time of transplant and Joanne will be on a life-time of expensive anti-rejection medications. This puts us up against a challenge that we cannot meet alone and need your help.
A fundraising campaign in Joanne’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution today. On behalf of Joanne, myself and our family, we thank you for you kindness, generosity and prayers.
