Dear Family and Friends:
As some of you may know, I have been living with juvenile diabetes since the age of 17, which has now led to a deteriorating kidney condition. I have been on dialysis three days a week for the last five years. This is keeping me alive. At this point, my doctors have told me that my only chance at a long and healthy life is a kidney transplant.
Through all of these hardships my faith has kept me focused on living life to the fullest. By the grace of God I have had three children and one stepdaughter and now have four beautiful grandchildren. I’d like to enjoy them for as long as possible. Currently, I am listed for transplant at three different hospitals hoping that it will lead to a transplant sooner.
Even with insurance, the extraordinary expense of transplantation is overwhelming. There are many things that must be paid out of pocket, including co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and relocation to the transplant center, and the costly anti-rejection medications I will have to take for the rest of my life. I have fought for my health throughout my entire life and now it has become a battle I cannot face alone.
To help with these uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a donation.Thank you in advance for your generosity, support and prayers.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Puentes Garcia
