My name is Natalie Riggs, just 49 years old (soon to hit the big 5-0 in December). I was a practicing nurse for over 25 years before I had to retire for medical reasons. In 2008, I was diagnosed with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. That is when I learned I would need a lifesaving double lung transplant. On November 19, 2012 I received that gift of life. I am now 2 years post-double lung transplant! I have enjoyed a wonderful life and now in my second life I work very hard to stay healthy. My lungs are doing great though immunosuppressant medications and natural causes have put me in stage 4 (of 5 stages) kidney failure. Fortunately, I have yet to start dialysis but I imagine that will happen in time, ultimately leading to a kidney transplant.
Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Even with insurance, I am facing very high out-of-pocket expenses including relocation to be closer to UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center); post-transplant medications are extremely expensive each month, co-pays, lab fees and more. I need your help.
To help with the financial burden of Natalie’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.

Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity. Keep an eye on my campaign page at www.helphopelive.org because we will be planning some fundraising events soon and posting updates regularly.

~Hi everyone, Natalie here!! Just an 'Events' catch-up. I turned 50 last Dec. & 3yr Anniversary 11/19/12. It definitely has been an adventure of some sorts...many trials & tribulations that will continue for my lifetime.
~My new lungs are being real troopers, though I've had an episode of pneumonia and only 2 admissions to hospital since beginning of Nov. 2015...Yay Me!!
~I'm in the 'midst' of preparing for my Kidney Transplant that I will be needing sooner than later.
~The costs of co-pays and my medicines are shockingly expensive along with daily living and weekly IV I do for myself.
~Your donation is a blessing in disguise .My bff did a garage sale and Julie Raftery & crew threw a Poker night. I became so ill so quickly there wasn't much time for Fundraising. So maybe for this time you'd consider a donation, pass this on & help me along my journey with this rare genetic disease called Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.

Hello Everyone & Happy Fall Equinox, when Mother Nature shows her beautiful colors.
I'm checking in & updating my assist page here. I have been doing really quite well until the end of August. I came down with Pneumonia, Bronchitis & some blood clot issues...still working on 'cleaning' those issues up. I was to be 'listed' for my kidney transplant the 14th, though due to some growths on my bronch biopsies they must hold off until they are final diagnosed & treatment in place. Very disheartening to say the least.
Needless to say, all the antibiotics, copays, 2 week hosp stay, meds & so much more is quite more at times than I can cover. If you would be so kind as to take a look at my campaign & share it amongst your friends, etc. I would truly appreciate any amount that could assist. I love you all & Thank you in advance <3
Hi everyone,
I am settling into my new place quite nicely. I really like it very much. I made the move to Irwin, Pa to be closer to my Dr.'s at UPMC. I am doing many, many tests for my kidney transplant upcoming. I have still managed to evade dialysis by only a point on labs here and there. I've had more than my share of 'bumps' along this mighty, adventurous road...but I'm still going.
I am getting used to bills, from moving & mostly changing pharmacy's across states & the very expensive medication. One expense you don't count on in such a big city as Pittsburgh is the parking & tolls and as much as I'm back & forth it is adding up.
I know everyone is having their own difficulties & problems but anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated. I Thank you in advance!!
Much Love,
~Natalie~
****MOVING PARTY****
I am in need of some assistance or rather 'a little help from my friends'. I have very expensive medications every month, but I am moving to Irwin, Pa May 15th to be closer to my doctors. Not only for my 11/19/12 double lung transplant care and maintenance but for my upcoming kidney transplant & impending dialysis. If you could even contribute 5$ or whatever you can it will help the relocation a little easier.
I'm not great at 1. Asking for help.. 2. not being stubborn thinking I can do it myself....so this is me asking, and backing down on being stubborn. There are not words to convey my appreciation. Please share & lend hand to my cause.
Sincerely Love,
~Natalie~

You are a big inspiration to me. I am also an Alph-1 and in the evaluation phase for a double lung trans plant. I got chills when you mentioned how it was when you took your first breath with new lungs. For me that would be the best gift I would ever receive from God. Praying for you each day. Thank you for being so strong.
