Michelle Ryan is a single mom to Abby, a spunky little 8 year old dancer. After many years of unexplainable illnesses and hospitalizations, Michelle’s doctors finally diagnosed her with systemic lupus. But the damage was done. Her kidneys had suffered severe damage and she was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. Michelle was put on dialysis, which she has to go to three times a week for three hours at a time. Needless to say, she is no longer able to work outside the home, but her job as a mother still has her on round-the-clock shifts. Luckily, she has the generous support of family members who help her and her daughter get through those tough times.
Michelle’s doctors at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida have told us that her only option is a life-saving kidney transplant. She has been place on the waiting list. We do have some family members who are being tested as potential donors, but the costs of having this life-saving surgery are monumental, and insurance only covers part of it. This is where your help is desperately needed.
