Dear Family, Friends and Neighbors of Karen Ryder,

As many of you may or may not know our sister has been through many health issues over the past 28 years. She and her husband, Paul, have been married for 30 years. In 1983, after being married for only two years, she was diagnosed with CML, a type of Leukemia, and underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant in 1986. Since then she has been faced with several serious health issues. One major issue is that when Karen had her bone marrow transplant, she contracted Hepatitis ‘C’. Now she is faced with yet another obstacle to overcome. In August of 2010, she was diagnosed with liver cancer and is in need of a liver transplant. She is presently on the waiting list. Her strength, faith and the support of those who love her has helped her over those hurdles she needed to jump and has pulled her through in the past and we hope that the same will help her overcome this obstacle as well.

Liver Transplant

The time has finally arrived. Karen went into Jefferson Hospital Wednesday, September 14th and was in surgery all night. All her prayers have been answered and she is beginning anew with a new liver. She is progressing very well and will be in intensive care in Thomas Jefferson Hospital for several days. Thanks to all of you for all of your continued support through this time. We are looking forward to many happy years ahead.

Love,

Denise (Karen's Sister)

Aunt Karen, You've been faced with so many obstacles in your life, but you've never lost hope. Keep that and stay positive, it will help you conquer ANYTHING! This is just another curveball that the world has thrown at you. You've taught me that God doesn't put you through anything you can't handle. You need to remember that for yourself now. You are a strong, inspiring woman, you can face anything! Love you so much!
