Gabrielle was diagnosed with congenital nephrotic syndrome at the age of 8 months. There is no cure for this disease and the only long term treatment is transplantation. The Santiago’s with the help of family and dear friends started raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation. Those efforts started in the fall of 1999 and continue today! Gabrielle, almost 20 years old, is a two time kidney transplant recipient and entering her sophomore year at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA! She is a thoughtful, caring and very tough young lady who loves a challenge and continues to pursue the life ahead of her! We recently celebrated the 5th anniversary of Gabrielle’s second transplant and we are happy to report that her health has been generally stable. With the advances in renal care continuing to develop, we maintain a healthy optimism for the future, yet we continue to plan for any negative developments to provide Gabrielle with the financial resources to continue her fight!
