On April 24th this year I gave birth to twins. The pregnancy was high risk and my labor and delivery occurred smack in the middle of a pandemic. I ended up being blessed with a smooth pregnancy (as smooth as it can be for a person with spinal cord injury), but I did experience some dangers with the labor and delivery. Everything turned out for the best and my 34 weekers will be out of NICU this week. We can’t wait to bring them home. Our future challenges (besides adapting to life with twins and making everything accessible to mom) will be in our need for additional caregiver support to continue allowing me to parent independently. I am so grateful for all the help I’ve received over the years and hope to pay it forward. Please check out my blog for updates: Daniizzie.com
February 2019:
I am currently working on funding a “standing” power chair. Time is of the essence as I face ongoing bone loss from not bearing weight on my skeleton and bones. (Astronauts lose up to 2% per month due to lack of gravity.) I need to be upright again and get some of that good gravity to counteract the worsening osteoporosis and resulting pain in my spine, hips and femurs.
Due to lack of access to ongoing therapy and the inability to use my current standing equipment due to worsening muscle spasticity and contractures, I feel that the Permobil F5 VS Vertical Power Chair is my best solution to remedy the issues I am now facing as it would allow me to stand up very easily and safely whenever I felt like it. I have not had this “luxury” in 10 years!
Insurance does not cover standing wheelchairs and the cost of this chair brand new and out-of-pocket is a whopping $50,000. However, I have been able to negotiate a price range on a slightly used demonstration unit for $15-20k and this is the amount I hope to raise. The closer I can get to $20k, the better option I will have on a newer model.
Contributions are tax deductible and can be made by credit card, check, phone, or online. If writing a check, please make payable to: Help Hope Live, and in the memo write, “in honor of Daniela Izzie” .
Thank you for caring, and thank you for your help!

February 2009:
Hello friends and family of Daniela, aka “Dani”. On February 8th, 2009, Dani fractured her fifth cervical vertebra and became an incomplete quadriplegic. For nearly two weeks she was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit at Georgetown University Hospital. From there, Dani received eight weeks of additional medical care and therapy at National Rehabilitation Hospital.
Serious injuries like Dani’s require constant medical attention and on-going physical therapy. Costs associated with this type of injury are too much for one family to handle alone. Therefore we are raising money to help pay for expenses left uncovered by insurance.
For tax purposes, Dani is fundraising with Help Hope Live. This will provide both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to those making donations. Please know that all funds will be used only to pay for Dani’s medical care or equipment, in-home caregiving, on-going physical therapy, or accessibility upgrades.
If you would like to help Dani by making a tax-deductable donation please read the instructions listed below. For more information, please contact Help Hope Live at 800-642-8399.
Thanks for your support!

Hey Dani!!
Carla and I know exactly the feeling being 40 years and nearly 20 years down the line respectively. So if we can do just a little something to help before the damage gets done it is worth every cent. We hope you get to your total fast.

Dani,
Although I have never met you, I learned of you through our "fishing buddy" Amie James and had been following your website. Having lost my internet addresses and bookmarks, I was recently able to reconnect to your blog and became aware of your many progresses and your constant drive to improve. I am awed by your good grace and incredible sense of humor. I recently contributed to your NTAF site and hope this helps your efforts. You are certainly in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Deedee Renehan
