More donations are needed transplant is complete however we do have some ongoing donor costs.
As many of you know, Henry Schoenbeck, just 39 years old, has been battling end-stage renal disease for several years. After undergoing years of grueling dialysis, doctors determined that he needs a kidney transplant to survive.
Henry’s kind and courageous Uncle Jimmy has gone through rigorous testing at the Swedish Hospital Medical Center and has been determined to be a match. He feels honored to have such an opportunity to help his nephew in this loving, selfless way. Henry and his wife, Shashona and their three girls, Coral, Lilly and Kayla are so very grateful and feel blessed to have him in their lives. Uncle Jimmy has been a rock through this very difficult time and is now making preparations for transplant alongside Henry. Now Henry and Jim need a little of your help.
Transplantation is life-saving but very expensive, and costs can be devastating. Even though Henry’s insurance will cover the bulk of his procedure, there are many uninsured costs such as: co-payments for multiple doctor appointments, travel, relocation, medical supplies and donor expenses. Uncle Jim and his wife Denise will be traveling from California to Washington and will be staying in the state for 16 days incurring costs for rent and travel.
To help with the financial burden of Henry’s funinsured expenses and those of his donor, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution today.
For credit card contributions, please click the Donate Now button.
Together we can make a difference. Please keep Henry and Jim in your prayers.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

We are closer to reaching our goal to help with donor expenses. Thanks to a very generous donation. We however will still be short of our goal. In case you have not had a chance to read the update Henry's insurance backed out of donor costs prior to surgery. We were then forced to resort to the secondary which means the overages are our responsibility. As you can imagine costs for a surgery and relocation can add up quick. We are asking that during this holiday season that you donate to help hope live so that our donor can rest easy that all of the remaining costs are getting taken care of. Merry Christmas! Shashona
Henry is finally in jeans and moving along in recovery. He has been authorized to drive a little and he is very excited about that. We ask that while the holiday season is upon us that you might consider donating to help hope live to assit in donor expenses. Thanks and Merry Christmas. Shashona
Here's an undate for you. Henry had a appointment with swedish yesterday and things are going great. Soon he should be able to drive again. Uncle Jim is moving along in recovery and working harder each day. We are so greatful to Uncle Jim and Aunt Deni for this amazing christmas gift. Also thanks to the grandparents for all your help. Shashona
We had a very great Thanksgiving such a special treat for Henry be able to make our dinner. Best birthday gift ever. So happy to have my husband back. Talk about fiesty. Shashona
Henry is home and adjusting to a whole new life. We are so thankful for this wonderful gift. At the last minute the Primary insurance refused to pay for the donors hospital charges and operation. We then had to revert to the 2nd insurance and have a copay of over $200 per night for the hospital stay. We are in need of donations. Please donate to help with this cost.
Thanks to all who have donated. Shashona
So happy to have a new kidney for my husband and his life back. He has already changed so much. I wanted to let everyone know that at the last minute the primary insurance backed out and would not cover costs for the donor. We then had to use the 2nd insruance for the donor which means we now have over a $1,500 copay for the time he was in the hospital. Funds in the help hope live bank have been used to help with travel, food, relocation, copays for meds and other transplant fees. Please donate so that we can get the $1,500 copay taken care of . ( The help hope live fund counter does not go down as funds are used it only shows amount raised to date.) Please help to finish this process up. Thanks Shashona
Look under photo album for new transplant pictures!
Surgery is complete and both patients are doing great. We feel as if we have been granted a new life. Both patients would like to thank everyone for the donations and help. Also a good portion of the fundraising dollars have been used and the donor does have some ongoing costs so please donate to help hope live to help with post surgery donor costs. (The fundrasing bar will not change as money is used it will always show total amount raised.). Shashona
Last Day before surgery. Thanks for all the support. Henry Just hooked up for the last time to his machine. In the home stretch now! Shashona
1 week untill transplant!
11 Days untill transplant! Trying to get everything in order to get ready. Henry went to a doctor's appt today and things are good so far. Please take a minute to donate to HelpHOPELive and share link. Still needing donations. The last go around took some of the funds for extra hotel stays and travel. Thanks Shashona
Transplant is November 3rd!
Transplant has been authorized. Henry's levels are down. We should be hearing shortly on a date for the surgery. A special Thanks for all the family that stayed strong and encouraged us during this horrible waiting period.
Wanting to let everyone know we are still playing dective and trying to find out what is causing Henry's levels to raise. Its a very frustrating process. Today Henry will do another blood test to see if improvement has been made. Thanks to family who have been helping to try to figure out this mystery. Donations are still needed so that when transplant is set we are ready. Please Donate today. Send prayers. Shashona
We have recieved some testing back. Henry had some elevation in liver enzymes which was the reason surgery was cancelled. All testing prior to that point was good and showed he was ready for transplant. This was a huge shock and stress to the family. However Uncle Jim and Henry are blazing a trail of positive thoughts to get ready to transplant. Last test indicated that the levels had lowered. We hope to be transplanting beginning of November. Please donate extra costs had occured due to this bump in the road. Send Prayers. Shashona
We have encountered a very tough bit of news today. Henry has some things that are going on that will need further testing right now surgery on monday is cancelled. He hopefully will have an appt Monday or this week and will have more answers. In the meantime Uncle and Aunt get more family time with us and the kids. Please pray.
My Uncle Jim got a call today right before he was boarding his plane from swedish that he has to go in for the next 3 days for test before surgery. Please prayer and thanks for the donations.
Transplant is right around the corner! Take action now and donate.
