Help make a difference in Pat’s life and help him get a kidney transplant.
My husband, Pat Scruggs has had end-stage renal disease for more than three years and is currently on dialysis. Unfortunately, Pat did not take his doctor seriously about his health and as a result, high blood pressure and diabetes led to his kidney failure. Pat’s doctors have informed him that a kidney transplant is his only chance for long-term survival.
Pat is funny, smart, giving, encouraging, full of wisdom, and does not compromise his beliefs in God. He is a blessing to me and many others. Pat and I are also caregivers for my Mother who requires our daily help. Even with his own health issues, Pat still helps with Mom and many others — he continues to place others before himself.
Fundraising for this life-saving transplant is a monumental task. Even with insurance, we will need to raise over $60,000 for uninsured expenses, long term care and anti-rejection medicine. While he is on the active waiting list at two hospitals, we needed to raise $10,000 to cover his first six months of post-transplant expenses. We reached that goal by the end of 2011 after only fundraising for six months! To God me the glory! It will take an additional $10,000 to $12,000 annually to cover his medical expenses that are not covered by his insurance. I am asking for your financial help for us to be able to support his transplant costs and for him to live a healthier, longer life.
To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Pat’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax- deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund. They will be administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making an end-of-year, tax –deductible contribution today.
