My name is Amanda Smith. In 2008 I was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension which was caused by a bad valve in my heart. This valve cannot be fixed and has over pressurized my lungs. In March 2011 I was admitted to the Mayo Clinic for heart failure. My heart and lungs are so badly damaged that the medicine I am taking is no longer helping me to get better. The doctors have tried all that is available and say that I am in need of a heart and double lung transplant.
I know tomorrow is not promised to me but I would like to help my wonderful husband Eric, an Iraq War veteran and volunteer fire captain, to raise our three beautiful girls (Andrea Linton, Madison Linton, and Skylar Smith). I want to see them graduate from high school and someday get married and have kids themselves.
I am currently trying to raise money to help with the overwhelming expenses that insurance doesn’t cover. This money will be used for housing, medicine co-pays, travel, etc. The costs can reach over $5000 a month after transplant and my husband and I will have to relocate to Jacksonville, FL for three months away from our sweet girls.
To help ease the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, and are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Heart/Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
Thank you for consideration of a contribution. Thank you for everything.

Hello everyone. It's been a hard 8 months. On November 29th I got the call that I have been waiting on. My lungs are in and ready for me. On the 30th the surgery was done. Unfortunately they failed. The doctors kept me on life support till December 17th. That's when a new set of lungs came my way. They was a little to big so they cut them down to fit me. They kept me asleep for several weeks as my body healed. January 27 they woke me up and my new life started. Since I had been asleep so long all my muscles diminished and most of my organs stopped working. The last several months I have spent getting things working again and learning how to walk all over again. My kidneys unfortunately still have not bounced back. I am currently still in the hospital under going dialysis 3 days a week. I'm working hard to get off the vent. I'm ready to get home to my 3 girls. They are patiently waiting for me. Thank you for all the prayers.
I want to thank everyone who donated to my site I received my transplant for double lungs on August 27th 2013.
Currently 1/24/2016 I am going through rejection and I am having to be added back to the transplant list for another double lung transplant. I will be having to go to the hospital more regularly until then so our finances are in need of help. Thank you... Amanda Smith
Got my transplant
On August the 27th I received my gift. I got my double lung transplant and they also did open heart surgery to repair the whole in my heart. It has been a month since my surgery and I am do well. Out of the hospital living in an apartment close to the hospital for the next 2 to 3 months so the doctors can keep a close eye on me. Thank you all for your love and support. May God Bless.
Update from March 22nd
Had some appointments the other day. Every thing went good. The pressure in my lungs is higher than the thought but everything else was looking good. I am #2 on the transplant list for my blood type, so it could really be any day. Keep me and my family in your prayer. Thank you and God bless.
