Dear Family and Friends,
We all know Kalim to be a unique, remarkable and charming man who uses his talents and expertise to bring life to everyone around him. To some, Kalim is a strong, active and inspiring man. To others he is a hard worker and an excellent Hawaiian gourd drum maker. You may know him as an advocate for the underprivileged, a light of hope to those without a voice. And still to others, he is an intellectual and expert in Native American language and culture. I don’t think any one of us view Kalim as disabled, held back or one who gives up easily. He is the type of person that finds a way to make things happen.
As most of you know, Kalim was in a terrible accident in June 2011. Since being released from the hospital, he has been working hard to recover and stay physically fit and healthy despite the challenges of paraplegia. As Kalim continues on this path, there are astronomical expenses including ongoing health care, medical supplies and equipment, home and vehicle modifications and physical therapy. While initially Kalim’s insurance paid for a lot of these expenses, many of these costs are no longer covered. This brings me to the purpose of my letter- to let you know of an opportunity to support Kalim and his efforts to live his life to the fullest.
To help with these uninsured medical expenses, recovery-based therapies and overall quality of life, a fundraising campaign in Kalim’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the community for over 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. Please consider partnering with Kalim and making a donation. If financial donations are too difficult at this time, there is another way to help. If you would like to head up a fundraiser in your area or want to volunteer your time at a fundraiser, please email [email protected].
Your donation brings us closer to meeting Kalim’s needs to maintain a sufficient quality of life. Thank you so much for any help you can offer Kalim and our family!
Sincerely,
Landa Smith
