Jef has chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF) in part because HHL provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds contributed will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses.
Dear Family and Friends,
Thank you to all who generously gave your love and comfort to me while I fought to live as normal a life as possible with kidney failure. August of 2008, I experienced kidney failure among other major medical issues. Somehow I survived a blood count of 3.5, major heart complications and a bone marrow condition as a result of my kidney failure. When this happened I was working all over the USA with my photography business. Between gigs we stopped in PA to rest, while there my friends contributed to saving my life by making the decision to get me to best hospital in PA. My survival was a result of their help, expert care: several blood transfusions, round-the-clock heart monitoring, and hemodialysis my first week in the hospital. When I was released, I returned to Pensacola to continued a very challenging life of hemodialysis for 13 months.
As you can surmise, my strenuous journey has led to my business failing due to my illness and to staggering medical bills. Already, thousands of dollars of uninsured medical expenses have accumulated. Even with insurance the cost of transplantation is overwhelming. Because of this we must continue to rely on those with giving and caring hearts to help us sustain what can only be classified as a miracle.
To help ease the burden of these ongoing medical expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in Jef’s honor with HelpHOPELive. HHL has been assisting the transplant community with fundraising for 30 years. All contributions are administered by HHL. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Your contribution will help maintain my gift of life. No gift is too small and will be so appreciated.
Unfathomable happiness came October 5th, 2009. I felt as if I was given a brand new life and I had never felt so amazing, strong, and free! Our prayers were answered when I received the gift of life – a kidney transplant.
Yes it’s been about 3.5 years since my transplant. Life is great! I make the most of it in every way I can. The only draw back to having a kidney transplant is that I will have to continue the anti-rejection meds the rest of my life and it’s is far from cheap. My medical insurance is $8400 a year. Without medical insurance my medication would be just over $36,000 a year. Needless to say I will not be losing my insurance, with the help of you & HHL.
