On February 12, 2012 Jane was in a serious motorcycle accident in Pembroke Pines where she was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital and underwent emergency surgery to alleviate a blood clot and stop a major brain bleed. She suffered trauma to the brain; the extent of which is yet to be determined. What we do know is that Jane is a fighter and she grows stronger each day. She is now awake, and breathing on her own.
The harsh reality is the unknown. We do not know if Jane will ever be able to work again or live independently. We need to plan now for the financial implications, burdens and challenges she will face. Jane is continuing her rehabilitation at Memorial Regional South. It will take time before her neurologists can provide us with information on the severity of her brain trauma.
Even with insurance Jane will have many uninsured, injury-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, extended rehab therapy and home healthcare. This presents a financial challenge that she cannot meet alone. We need our community to multiply as we build a network for our grass-roots fundraising campaign.
To assist with these uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in Jane’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Traumatic Brain Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. Please consider making a donation:Thanks for your support which will help Jane receive the treatment she needs and deserves to heal, live and thrive.
