As many of you know, Chris has been battling end stage renal disease for many years. He has been fortunate to avoid dialysis thus far. Recently his kidney function has rapidly dropped and it is now crucial to have a kidney transplant to save his life. We have found a “perfect match” in his brother and he is scheduled for a kidney transplant October 6th.
Chris has insurance, which is a blessing, and our immediate family is helping in every way they can but this will not cover all the costs for the transplant. Despite having insurance, many of his medical needs are not covered and must be paid out-of-pocket. Chris will need between $20,000 and $40,000 for his lifelong immunosuppressant medications and $5,000 before the doctors can start the transplant. Also, the expense of traveling to and from the center and then relocation costs at the time of transplant will be high. This presents Chris and our family with a challenge we cannot meet alone.
To help with these uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in Christopher’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive. HelpHOPELive is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please, if you can, make a donation today.
