Many of you know Larry Stephens: husband, father, brother, friend and small business owner. On June 2, 2011 Larry’s life was changed forever. He was critically injured in a tragic motorcycle accident resulting in a traumatic brain injury. The details surrounding the accident continue to be a mystery.
Larry was hospitalized for more than seven weeks, including a month in the ICU. His recovery has been a miracle. By the grace of God he is now working tirelessly on his journey toward full recovery. He was admitted to Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Denver for his rehabilitation, which includes physical, occupational and speech therapy. We continue to be overwhelmed by the love and support of our family and friends. The progress and the power of prayer have been truly amazing. We know the road ahead will be filled with challenges. With Larry’s determination and attitude we are confident of positive results. Long term physical or cognitive limitations have yet to be determined.
Unfortunately, Larry’s situation illustrates some of the shortcomings in the current healthcare system. He was denied health insurance just prior to the accident, even though he has no formal diagnosis and did not take any prescription medications prior to the accident. In fact, physicians treating Larry in the hospital have remarked that his miraculous recovery is due to his good health. His hospital and physician expenses are expected to be well into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The magnitude of these expenses and lack of insurance create a desperate need for your help.
To help overcome these uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in Larry’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive. HelpHOPELive is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant and catastrophic injury community for more than 28 years. All contributions are tax-deductible and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution to help Larry today. It is never easy to ask for help and now is certainly no exception. Larry has touched the lives of many and we deeply appreciate the support of our family, friends and community.
On behalf of Larry, we thank you for all your help.
