Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, over 20 years ago, I was diagnosed with Lupus. I am now 46 years old, have struggled through many medical complications and hospitalizations. I am in end stage renal failure and for the past 7 years I have been on kidney dialysis 3 days every week. This is what is keeping me alive. I am not able to work or do many things that I used to be able to do.
My doctors at the University of Maryland Medical Center have told me that my only option now is to receive a life-saving kidney transplant as soon as possible. While I am fortunate to have medical insurance there are many medical expenses that will not be covered and must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, travel to and from the transplant center, relocation at the time of transplant and I will be on a life-time of anti-rejection medications. This puts me up against a challenge that I cannot meet alone and desperately need your help.
