Bill Tillotson
Age 47
Father to Cody and Colton
Wonderful husband to Sharon (Smejkal) Tillotson
As many of you may know, Bill has been courageously battling polycystic kidney disease for over 15 years. Over the past year, Bill has been on dialysis three days a week, four hours a day and this treatment is keeping him alive. Though he is doing fairly well on this treatment, he is not able to work and is on disability.
We have received the fantastic news that he is eligible for home hemo dialysis, for which he and Sharon are “in training” to get started! This process will allow Bill to go back to work, which means a lot to him and give him a better quality of life. He can continue to live for a long time on dialysis, but ultimately, Bill will need a kidney transplant.
Currently, Bill is on the kidney transplant list at the North Austin Medical Center. Although he has Medicare, Bill will still have many uninsured medically-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, and the costly medications that he will have to take for the rest of his life. Being on the list is fantastic news, but unless we can raise enough money to cover the uninsured expenses, he will be put on a “hold” status…not on the active transplant list.
Our initial goal is to raise between $25,000 and $35,000 for the required medications and expenses.
To help offset some of these expenses, a fundraising campaign in Bill’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF). HelpHOPELive is a non-profit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to make a difference in Bill’s life
