I am writing to you on behalf of my wife of 34 years and the love of my life, Linda Trumbo, who has successfully undergone a heart transplant at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.
Linda has touched many of your lives in her job as a gentle, reassuring dental hygienist or through her passion of gardening or while cheering on her favorite team at the stock car races. Linda is an animal lover who loves her cherished pets – her bird, two cats, and dog.
Over a year ago Linda was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Shortly thereafter her health deteriorated rapidly as a virus attacked her heart and she was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy.
On December 31st, Linda passed out, her heart had stopped beating, her valves weakened, and she went into seizures. Paramedics arrived and used a defibrillator to bring her back and take her to Santa Rosa hospital. There her doctor decided to send her to California Pacific Medical Center by ambulance. On the way, her heart stopped twice and she again was shocked back to life.
Linda was rushed into surgery, where she was attached to two external heart pumps to keep her alive. Her doctors told us that her only option was a life-saving heart transplant. Linda then had surgery four times and received the ultimate gift of life, a heart transplant on January 22nd. Throughout all of this she was in good spirits and accepting of her condition.
We are now up against a financial challenge that we can not meet alone. There are many expenses that must be paid for out of pocket. Some of these are deductibles, co-pays, doctor visits, transportation and Linda will be on a life-time of anti-rejection medications. A fundraising campaign in Linda’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (HelpHOPELive). HelpHOPELive has been assisting the transplant community with fundraising for more than 28 years. All contributions are administered by HelpHOPELive exclusively for uninsured transplant-related expenses. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Please consider making a contribution in Linda’s honor today.

It is never easy to ask for help and now is no exception. Linda has touched the lives of many and we deeply appreciate the support she has received. At times like this the assistance of family, friends, and the community is crucial to help ensure a positive outcome. Linda loves life and your help will return her to the life she loves.
With sincere gratitude,
John Trumbo
