Many of you know my loving husband Scott Wagner. We have been married for 27 years. He is the father of our three children Renee (26), Sara (24), and Derron (23). He is a former chef and Staff Sergeant in the Air Force. Scott has been struggling for many years with diabetes. As the disease has progressed he is now in end stage renal failure and has gone blind. He is no longer able to work due to the loss of his eyesight and is unable to golf or hike like he used to. He does enjoy books on tape and taking walks with me or our children. Scott is on peritoneal dialysis at night which is constantly monitored. Scott’s doctors at the University of Colorado Hospital have told us that he is now in need of a life-saving kidney transplant. Fortunately, I am a match and able to be his donor.
This brings me to the purpose of this letter. Not only is a kidney transplant major surgery, but it is also a very expensive procedure. Even with insurance there are many costs that must be paid for out of pocket. These costs are more than Scott and I can cover. Scott will be on a life time of anti-rejection medications, co-pays, deductibles, and I as his donor will be out of work for several weeks without pay.
To help offset some of these expenses, a fundraising campaign in Scott’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (HelpHOPELive). HelpHOPELive is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for over twenty-seven years.
