Dear Friends and Family,
This is a short version of how life can change in a blink of an eye. Back in 2003, during an annual check-up, a mass was found in her abdomen which was removed through surgery. Following the surgery, a pathology report indicated Alicia had polyps in her colon and then was diagnosed with a rare disease Gardner’s Syndrome. She was told another surgery would have to be performed for the rest polyps not to become cancerous. That surgery took place 2 yrs after, leaving her with complicated issues having to do with her health.
Since then Alicia has been in and out hospital (your heart would ache for all that she has had to endure). Recently she has been told that her only chance at a healthy life is to have a small bowel transplant. The transplant will give Alicia the opportunity to once again enjoy her life — to once again become outgoing, etc. — the person that she is meant to be, God intended. And this is where she is counting on your support to help her get her life back.
Even with insurance, Alicia will have many uninsured, transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, temporary travel and relocation housing and the costly immunosuppressant medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life.
To help offset these uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in Alicia’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are tax- deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Small Bowel Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. You can help make a difference in Alicia’s life. Please consider making a contribution.
