I was born and raised in Phoenix and I now reside in Peoria, Arizona. I was born in 1962 and look forward to soon celebrating my 50th birthday. I am a divorced father of six and am patiently but excitedly waiting to become a grandfather. For ten years I served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Air Crewman.
In 1993, I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes and hypertension which are the two main contributors to my kidney failure. I have been a kidney dialysis patient since June of 2008 and with God’s help, I have been able to remain relatively healthy and keep my spirits up. My doctors at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center have now determined that I should be on the list for a kidney transplant. Dialysis is not a good long term solution and a transplant is my best hope for a return to a good quality of life.
Transplants are life-saving but very expensive. Medicare won’t cover many of the expenses that I will face, including co-pays, travel costs, and anti-rejection medications that I’ll need to take for the rest of my life to make sure my body accepts the new kidney.
To help with my uninsured expenses, my family has established a fundraising campaign in my honor with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution.
