January 13, 2012 marks the day that our lives were changed dramatically. The day started as any typical Friday but ended with Lamont on life support after being trapped between the tires of an 18-wheeler. His head was repeatedly slammed against the inside of his car, causing Lamont to suffer a traumatic brain injury with massive swelling. He was airlifted to a local hospital where he spent the next two months in a coma fighting for his life. Doctors filled the room with uncertainty. Would Lamont survive the coma and, if he did, would he have a purposeful life?
Despite the doubt from the doctors we knew that GOD did indeed have a purpose for Lamont. We never stopped praying! In the past 15 months Lamont did wake from the coma and has overcome tremendous odds; he is on the road to recovery. Lamont is determined to live as independent and normal a life as possible. He knows that it will take dedication and hard work to obtain his goals of being a productive and contributing member, not only to his family and friends, but to the world.
With the help of friends and family members Lamont has made great progress but he still has far to go. It will require expensive therapy that is not covered by the type of medical insurance that Lamont has. The initial estimate, between $4000 and $5000, is needed for home healthcare aides in addition to the costly therapy however as a result of the poor economy and lack of resources Lamont’s funds are greatly limited. He desperately needs your help.
To help pay for these medical expenses, therapy and other injury-related expenses, a fund raising campaign in Lamont’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the community for over 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, and held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Traumatic Brain Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for accident-related expenses only. Please help Lamont reach his goal of living as much of an independent and productive live as possible by contributing to his fundraising campaign.
