Dear Family and Friends,
As many of you know, for the past several years, my husband Mark has been living with an autoimmune disease that affects the kidneys called IGA nephropathy (Berger’s disease). He is now in end stage renal failure and is in need of a life-saving kidney transplant.
Through all of this, Mark has continued to serve our community as a Deputy in Plaquemines Parish and lives a very active life. Mark is an amazing husband and father to Dylan and Dustin and step-father to Destiny. Family has kept him firmly focused to continue on with determination despite the day to day struggles that he is faced with.
Miraculously, I am a perfect match for Mark and this coming summer I will be Mark’s living donor so that he may receive the precious gift of life.
Transplants, however, are extremely expensive and costs can be devastating. Even though his insurance company will cover most of the procedure, he will have many out-of-pocket costs, such as: payments for hospital visits, clinics, deductibles, and costly anti-rejections medications which Mark will need to take for the rest of his life.
To help reduce the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Mark’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years.
