Lisa was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease or PKD in October 2000. Although the disease is hereditary (her mother had it) she is the only daughter that inherited the disease. Lisa is presently Stage 5 kidney disease and is trying to stay off dialysis. Her doctors have said that as long as she does not show illness, keeps up her diet and continues exercise she will not have to be on dialysis. However, that can change any day, and this is a one day at a time situation.
Working is what my mother does to keep her mind going and thoughts off of her medical condition. She works full-time at a call center in Ormond Beach so she can keep her son’s life as normal as possible. She tries to think ahead and is trying to get ready for a very expensive medical treatment, a kidney transplant.
Insurance does cover a lot of the actual transplant, there are many out-of-pocket expenses that are not covered, such as, copays for hospital and doctor visits, anti-rejection medications, travel expenses to name a few.
To help offset her uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held in the Southeast Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. You can help make a difference in Lisa’s life. Please consider a contribution.

On March 16th 2016 , I received a call there was a very good kidney available. On the 17th my kidney transplant was done. I am presently home with my parents, the kidney is working very well. Everyone from the Doctors to my family and friends are very Happy. In Oct 2015 I had the PD catheter put in and was out of work 6 weeks. My employers leave of Absence gives me 6 weeks left of the 12 weeks allowed. They do not go by calendar year Jan-Dec, but from when the first leave started, I am due to be out for three months. Any additional help would be appreciated it looks like I will be out for 6 weeks unpaid.
Hello everybody I thought I would give an update. As many of you know I was diagnosed with PKD in 1999. I have been trying to stay healthy and eat the proper foods and drink plenty of water. With God's help I have been able to still work and keep my home. However, the filtration level is getting very bad. I am only filtering 6 present of my waste. My doctor as advised me that Dialysis is something I will need in the very near future. I still feel ok, most of the time, but if a "crash" and need it in an emergency situation It will me worst. My son is now 17 years only I want him to worry about studying not getting a job to pay household items. If you could please donate, or pass this along even if you can't, I would be appreciative. All funds go to the medical bills that insurance does not cover.
Lisa is presently looking into getting set up for Dialysis. Her kidney filtration level is in single digits. A Filtration level 15 is Stage 5. Any help that you can give to Lisa is a appreciated.
Lisa, sorry to hear that you have been ill. I havent worked since we left FDC, so I cant contribute right now but Ill keep you in my thoughts
