Dear Family and Friends,
You may know me as Kelly Lamb who grew up in Ypsilanti Michigan, went to school in Ann Arbor and then made the bold move and went to Michigan State (Go Spartans!). You may have known me years ago through various jobs as Kelly Dobbs. Or, we may have just recently become friends and you know me as Kelly Wright. I married my wonderful husband, Dave Wright, on February 10, 2011 and we have two kids – Jake and Gabby (our cats!). We live in Ypsilanti with one of my best friends – my mom, Rachael Lamb.
You may not know, however, that in 2010 I was diagnosed with end stage liver disease and liver cancer. Over the past year, I have gone through an extensive evaluation process at the transplant center at the University of Michigan Medical Center. My doctors have told me that at this point, my only chance for survival is a life-saving liver transplant.
Due to my declining health, I am not longer able to work. My energy fades quickly each day, but I have been determined to continue to pursue my passions. I recently finished a memoir which chronicles my story over the past year. I also love to volunteer and help others at every opportunity. Now, I need your help. Your support and encouragement will help me overcome the challenge I am facing.
Dave and I have come to realize that funding my transplant is a monumental task. Even with insurance, there are numerous uninsured transplant-related expenses, including: doctor visits, blood tests, MRIs, travel and relocation at the time of transplant, and the costly immunosuppressant medications I will have to take for the rest of my life.
In order to offset some of these expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been helping the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
