Dear Friends and Family,
As you probably already know, my dad Vince Yackery, recently suffered a life changing spinal cord injury that none of us could have anticipated. The hard working, religiously dedicated family man we all once knew is currently bound to a wheelchair and hospital bed, for the first time in his life dependent on the care of others. Up until now, you could count on Vince to be up before the sun, working out and headed to the train by 6 a.m. Now a quadriplegic, he is redirecting that focus to his intensive therapy and rehabilitation program.
In spite of the many struggles he and our family face, Vince remains hopeful that he will return to a productive life with the continued support of family and friends. We are preparing to make several home modifications in order to make it handicap accessible, and purchase a specialized vehicle that will provide him with greater mobility and independence.
In order to make Vince’s new dreams possible, a fundraising campaign has been established with Help Hope Live, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Northeast Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and administered by Help Hope Live for injury-related expenses only. Please consider making a donation to help the Yackery family.

Our deepest appreciation and thanks,

Join us to WALK so Vince can too on September 22nd, starting at the Rowayton Community Center. Flyer and Registration is available here. If you can’t make it, you can always sponsor a walker !
The 4th Annual Women's InVINCEble Paddle Tournament was a rain out!!! 25 players gathered for lunch at Middlesex and enjoyed hanging out with Vince, his friends and family members. Auction items were donated by Ines Giannetti, Frederik Wendelboe, Rowayton Seafood Restaurant, Christy Sagalyn and Serendipity, Andrew Stephanou Salon and Spa, 1020 Post Restaurant, Neilson's Florist, Sweet Peas & Poppies, Tengda Asian Bistro, and Amy Shay and Cythia Dardis. The committee of volunteers included Ines Giannetti, Heather Silver, Karen Schrenker and Caroline Yackery. Thank you all for your support. xoxo
Dear Friends - the journey continues. It's been three years and Vince remains in good spirits and has come to accept his limitations. He needs 24/7 care and our goal is to afford the best care possible while keeping him out of hospitals and nursing homes. Vince has been recovering from his second "flap surgery" to repair a bed sore that would not heal on its own. This required a 2 month stay at Gaylord Rehabilitation Hospital in Wallingford. He will be returning home after Labor Day. We want to have a gathering of friends and family at Roton Point on September 25th to celebrate his home coming and keep our tradition of the InVINCEble Walk. Please join us for a walk around Rowayton and a casual visit with Vince and his supporters. The journey has been possible because of YOU. We are eternally grateful for each and everyone of you. Hope to see you on the 25th. with love, Caroline, Vince, Erica, Gavin, Christina, Claire and friends
Dear friends and supporters,
Our 3rd Annual Women's Paddle Tournament was a hit! (pun intended) 42 women participated including 7 teams of intermediate players. We had a sunny cold day; perfect for paddle. Vince was excited to greet his supporters but ran into trouble with his handicap van and regretfully missed the luncheon. He passed along his prepared speech where he thanked our Co-Chair Heather Silver and her committee including Cindy Wittstock, Karen Schrenker, Ines Gianetti, ...Alison Kohlmeyer and Ines Gianetti donated their vacation homes for the auction which raised an additional $4300. WOW ladies - thank you so much. Raffle prizes were donated by Andrew Stephanou Salon and Spa in Darien, Amy Shay, Neilson's Garden Center, and Down Under Water Sports in Rowayton and Westport. Two Spray tans were also donated by Zen Bronze in Greenwich and balls were donated at cost by Chris from Gut Reaction.
Many of you were generous and donated additional funds which helped us reach a total of over $10,000. The funds will be dispersed by Help Hope Live and afford Vince 24/7 care in the privacy of his apartment in the Avalon complex in Norwalk. Our goal is to keep him out of a nursing home and have the best quality of care. Insurance only covers four hours a day and assists him in the morning and evening hours when an aid is available. Andrea provides care the remainder of the day and is paid from the funds here at Help Hope Live.
Thank you for your support. We couldn't do this without you.
Sincerely,
The Yackery Family
Vince, Caroline
Christina, Alex, Claire, Erica and Gavin

Glorious sunny winter day - 60 women rallied to play paddle at four Darien locations and support Help Hope Live in the name of Vince Yackery. Vince joined us for lunch at Weed Beach and enjoyed the company of his harem of friends. We are not alone in this journey to make the most of every day. Eternally grateful to everyone for their hard work and support. xoxo The Yackery Family

Dad has been home over three months now and working extremely hard in his physical therapy that he travels to Norwalk Hospitals rehab for. He is still determined to walk again, and swears that he will be getting rid of his power chair one of these days! In the meantime, Rory remains by his bedside keeping him in good company and playing guard dog.
To All our friends and supporters,
Many miracles have happened to us since April 29th, 2013. The offering of help in small ways has made a tremendous difference in our lives. A wonderful Aid, named Andrea, was referred to us and she lives with us during the week. She has encouraged Vince to take steps and makes it possible for me to go to work. Dinners are delivered several times a week. This is helpful as you know this takes planning from shopping to cooking - (not my forte`, if you know me well!). Recently, the community has rallied and is stopping by the the house at 6:00 AM to make sure Vince gets moved in in hospital bed and that I can sleep an extra hour or two. I'm so grateful. Thank you … Thank you … Thank you.
With love and appreciation,
Caroline Yackery and family

Thanks to everyone's generosity we were able to surprise my dad with his new handicap accessible van for Christmas! I have never seen such a big smile as he wore that day!

Vince has done his job of patiently resting in a flat position for 6 weeks as recovery from surgery to heal a bed sore! Mission accomplished. Now he will get his training wheels for his new candy purple power chair. Staff at Gaylord Rehab hospital are excellent and very nurturing.
Vince is resting comfortably at Gaylord Rehab Hospital in Wallingford, CT. He would love to have visitors! He was told today that his anticipated discharge date is December 20th. We can start singing "I'll be home for Christmas".

Homecoming
Vince is home! After nearly 4 long months he was very eager to get back to his family and some sense of normalcy. In our attempts to accomplish this we have built him a semi-private room downstairs (which he swears is only temporary until he can get himself upstairs). He is quite cozy with Rory keeping him company. We are still working on getting a handicap accessible vehicle and more in home help, but are encouraged and motivated to do so!
A special thanks to all of our friends, family, and neighbors that have shown up and blessed us with their love and support. We couldn't have made it this far without you all!

Caroline, I was not able to attend the paddle tourney but I have been thinking of you all a lot since I saw you at Weed Beach and will contribute. I am so pleased to see you are a religious family as faith, friends and family are what will get you all through this. Some of my favorite words from a song "He will NOT let you go...." I have Vince in my thoughts a lot these days.

Your story struck a chord with me- no pun intended! My son suffered a fracture of his C6 this summer but miraculously had no neurological damage. He is still wearing a collar as the fracture heals and we are so grateful that he is going to be fine. You and your family will be in my prayers.
