After roughly 5 1/2 years of PD dialysis I finally received the lifesaving Kidney transplant I needed so much on July 21, 2014. Though for the most part all has gone pretty well, I have had a hiccup or two along the way. As of this writing, I am just returning from the Mayo Clinic for another biopsy to deal with another hiccup. After a 5 days intensive IV treatment we are pretty certain that this hiccup will disappear, however, definite answer probably won’t be known until June or July 2015 at my 1 year anniversary checkup. At that time I will go under another biopsy and additional testing.
This is where I need you. Though I don’t know at this time when I will be scheduled to go back to Mayo, I do need to start working on additional fundraising for this time period as I know this will be at least another 4 to 5 day stay, which will include staying in a hotel.
I am so thankful for a successful surgery, great doctors and the great fundraising organization, HelpHOPELive. Now more than ever, I need your help to continue fundraising for all of the uninsured transplant-related expenses I now have such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and temporary relocation to the medical center post-transplant (my daughter, Crystal serves as my caretaker and travels with me; unfortunately, she lost her job once it was clear that she would need a leave of absence to care for me) and the costly immunosuppressant medications that I will need to take for the rest of my life. These expenses present a financial challenge that we cannot meet alone.
To help offset my uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held in the Southeast Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. You can help make a difference in my life. Please consider making a donation today by clicking on the DONATE NOW button.
Thank you for any help you can give,
Delois
This time last year i was just entering the operating room for what was the beginning of a new life with a new kidney! I am so very thankful to God and his mighty hand. My surgery was completed around 6:30 a.m. on 07/21/15! Though there have been bumps on this journey and I still have some hills to climb, I can't say thank you enough to my donor's family for their selflessness. I ask you all to pray for that family as i know they are missing their loved one. I want to take this time to thank everyone for their donations, support, fundraising efforts and prayers. Special thank you to my Team Kidney, Crystal Porter. Vernita Hill, Doriscel Feazell, Donna Mack, Melvin Evans, Joy Stepp Gurley, Linda Walls, the family of Vernita Hill, Celestine Steele, Miss. Janie, Jennifer, Godwin Upholstery and so many more. If you aren't a donor please consider becoming one. One donor could possible save 8 lives! Remember don't take your organs to heaven cuz heaven knows we need them here! Love to you all and thank you.
Please have a virtual slice of my 1st kidneyversary cake. Kindly provided by my daughter, Crystal Porter!

04/06/15 - well I'm back from Jacksonville. Feeling pretty good overall but the "medical answers" will be known in June. I will be back to Mayo for another biopsy and hopefully my 1 year anniversary check up will be done at the same time.
I am asking for your help once again for your donations and assistance for this upcoming trip in June. As of right now I don't know exactly when it will be but I do know that I will have to spend another 4 to 5 days in Jacksonville. These costs are really adding up and your previous donations helped make all of these extra trips a lot easier on me. Though I am maintaining my employment, I still have to shell out this additional money for the hotel stays/food/etc. while in Jacksonville.
Every little bit helps and I am asking for one big final push!!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Remember donations made through HelpHopeLive can be tax deductible.
Hello Friends! As some of you may know, I received my transplant on July 21st at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville-- one month today! So far things seemed to be going pretty well. I am so thankful for a successful surgery, great doctors and the great organization that HelpHopeLive is. I anticipate being able to go home this Saturday, the 23rd, but as you know, my uninsured transplant-related expenses will continue. Now more than ever, I need to continue to fundraise -- donations are still needed.
My daughter has done an exceptional job as my care-giver. Unfortunately, she lost her job due to the fact that she must remain with me for the forseeable future.
3 weeks and counting today! Still feeling pretty good and recovery is going well. Slow and easy wins the race!! I can't believe how fast time is going, I'll be home before I know it.
Stay tuned for more updates and pictures are coming!!!!
One week and going strong!!! So very thankful to everyone for all of their support and prayers.
Everything seems to be on target for now but we all know that can change in an instant. Continue with your prayers and know that I am doing all that I can to stay happy and healthy.
Also keep Crystal lifted in prayer. Heaven knows she has a hard job dealing with me :-)
One week later things are still going great post-op!!! I am feeling greatly blessed and and truly thankful for each and every one of you. Crystal is right here by my side and is a great support and aid. I wouldn't trade her for the world. So far no issues are occurring and I am positive that things will continue on an upward spiral.
Thank you all for your support, prayers, thoughts and calls!!!
Keep checking for updates.
Love you all.

A Good New Update From Delois. Only 2 1/2 days after being re-listed on the Mayo transplant list, I received my Gift of Life - my kidney transplant - on Sunday, July 20th.
I am so grateful to the family of the donor and to all of you who have supported me along this journey. More to follow.
The Garage Sale held on Saturday February 8th was a success. Many stories were shared and lessons learned. Thanks to everyone who came out.
Hello Friends/Family - as many of you know I've relocated to Georgia to be closer to our family. Life is going pretty good and I am still hanging in there. As June is fast approaching I am kicking my fundraising into overdrive and asking for your help. Please share my information in every way that you can. All help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks to you all.
CALL TO IMMEDIATE ACTION:
You can help save a life during this holiday season. Delois continues her wait for a kidney transplant and moves closer to her fundraising goal of $20,000. At this time of year, as you consider making your end-of-year tax-deductible donation, PLEASE think of Delois and help raise $1,785 by December 31st. If this first goal is reached, HelpHOPELive will award Delois a $500 Challenge Grant for having raised her first $5,000. Please forward this post to your Facebook or Twitter friends today! << less
