I am writing to you today in honor of my husband, Richard (Ric) Sweitzer. For the past 5 years Ric has been ill and is now in end stage liver failure. His doctors at Emory University Hospital have told us that his only option is a life-saving liver transplant.
Ric is a loving husband, father, son, brother and good friend to many. You may know Ric from his years as the Youth Minister at Loving Way in Denver or as the Senior Pastor at Delta True Light and Power in Delta, Colorado. During his 10-year tenure at Delta, Ric single-handedly, and with personal funds, renovated the dilapidated church and Pastor’s home and would not accept offerings from his congregation for the first two years of his Pastor-ship. Others of you knew Ric when he was living in Maryland and worked at the National Security Agency for ten years. Or maybe you know him since his move to the metro Atlanta area 16 years ago.
Not only is a transplant major surgery, it is also very expensive. We have come to realize that funding this surgery is a monumental task since there are so many uninsured transplant-related expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these expenses are deductibles, co-pays, and Ric will be on a lifetime of very expensive anti-rejection medications. This is a challenge we cannot meet alone and desperately need your help.
A fundraising campaign in Ric’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making an end of year tax-deductible contribution.
On behalf of Ric, Ian and our families, thank you for your kindness, generosity and support.

Richard Sweitzer received the gift of a new Liver June 10, 2014. He is doing well and appreciates all the support he has received! We also wish to thank the family who's loved one donated the gift of life so Richard may live. God has bestowed great blessings to our family and we appreciate his wonderful love. Thanks to everyone! Richard and Ashley Sweitzer
I wanted to let everyone know that may be interested, my husband, Richard Sweitzer, is now the the first in line at Emory for a liver transplant! So it could be any day, or night, that we get the call! Ric has his bag packed and we are ready for the next wild ride!
Just a note to thank everyone for their loving support! Ric is now in the #1 position at Emory for a Liver Transplant. We could get the call, any day or night!
This is Pat again, still trying to close the books on the Big Green Egg fundraiser. Just realized that I was in error when I said in my post yesterday that all donors were either members of SHBC or class of ‘59 alumni. There were some others who are not in either of those groups; they are retired Int’l Paper Co. friends who generously donated at the annual IP Retiree Christmas party in December. I have thanked them privately, but I failed to include them in my public thank you here on FB. You know who you are — Thanks, guys!
"Big Green Egg" raffle winner announcement: Hi. This is Pat, using John's FB page. The raffle to choose a winner of the "Big Green Egg" ended yesterday. The drawing was held at Spring Hill Baptist Church, in our Bible Study Class. The winner was BARBARA BUCK REVILLE!!!! Congratulations, Barbara. (She was so shocked and surprised at hearing that she won!!). This event concludes my fund raiser for Ric Sweitzer, our son-in-law and husband of our daughter, Ashley. We wish to thank everyone who supported this fund raiser with their generous donations. All donors were either members of the Murphy Class of '59 alumni group or members of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Mobile. The final tally of donations was $1,685.00. This was my first time at this sort of effort; what a wonderful experience. Love to all, Pat Carroll Bloodsworth.
Fred and Judy Bodie in Mobile are praying for you, John.
