My son, Matt Lucas, lived a very active life prior to the tragic diving accident that changed his life and left him paralyzed at age 15. Matt loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing many sports including football, baseball, wakeboarding, and surfing. After his accident, Matt was diagnosed as a C5-C6 quadriplegic, was hospitalized for four months and told he might not ever walk again.
Now, through severe determination, Matt has been able to make tremendous progress by regaining some extremity movement in his upper body and feelings throughout his body through rigorous physical therapy and high level physical activity at a specialized rehabilitation program. Matt’s attitude hasn’t changed since his accident and is always striving to do his best at everything.
Matt has found useful part-time work at Jupiter High School in the Adult Education Program and continues to look forward to a bright future. Matt makes enough for his living expenses, but not his injury related ones. Fees for personal care and rehabilitation are expensive and therapists and doctors have recommended some specialized therapeutic exercise equipment for his home that will help him maximize his strength and flexibility.
Matt has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.
