I was a smoker for 37 years, but on October 10, 2005 my doctor came into my hospital room, after being admitted for pneumonia, and told me my lungs were in bad shape and that I had to give up cigarettes if I wanted to live. That night I said a prayer and the Lord relieved me of the obsession of nicotine. I went to pulmonary rehab after this hospital visit. So many were on oxygen there and I thought I beat that because I had quit smoking. But I soon learned otherwise.
Transplantation is very expensive and even with insurance I will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and temporary relocation near to the transplant center for two months and the costly immunosuppressant medications that I will need to take for the rest of my life. The Cleveland Clinic has recommended fundraising to help meet these financial challenges.
To help with some of these expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. I ask for your help in making my transplant happen – please click the DONATE NOW button today.
Your financial gifts will be greatly appreciated and will help me make it through this difficult time.
With sincere gratitude,
Jack Slough

This man is one of my best friends and even inspired me to quit smoking. I've been cigarette free for almost a year now. Jack would do anything in his power to help someone and I pray for him to be around in my life for years to come. I love you Jack!
