My name is Joelma, I am 37 years old and I was born and raised in Brazil. In 2001 I moved to the USA, and I have since become a US citizen. My husband and I celebrated 10 years of marriage and we have two children, an 8 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. After 2009 I started to have shortness of breath and I was losing weight very quickly. In January 4, 2012, I went to the ER. I had a lung biopsy and I was diagnosed with severe progressive SPORADIC LAM. Since my diagnoses I have been on oxygen 24/7. The doctor told us I will need a double lung transplant. It was a very scary time for my family. I learned that I will have to do things differently, because I have limits now, with everything. I used to run and play with my children – I cannot do that anymore. I am so blessed to have the support of my family and friends.
Now I see life differently, I appreciate every little thing now much more than before. I strongly believe in GOD, HE is in control of my life and makes me feel strong and full of hope.
I recently finished my evaluation for a double lung transplant and I am currently on the transplant list at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, MD. This is both scary and exciting for me. My oxygen, therapy, and medicines are very expensive. I cannot work anymore to contribute to the expenses. This presents a challenge I cannot meet alone.
To help with his uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. You can help make a difference in my life. Please consider making a contribution.
I believe you only have one life to live and, this is it, to have a second change is called a miracle. I am looking for this miracle!
I want to say thank you and GOD bless you
Joelma

To all my family and friends.:
First I want to say thank you for all the support from my family(David, Nicholas, Gabriella, my mother Maria, my family here and in Brazil) my friends here who have been helping so much with so many ways. I have been waiting for my lung Transplant around 9 months. Unfortunately i got worse this year when I stopped to take (Rapamune). I have been in the Hospital twice this year because I was having Respiratory problems. Pretty much my doctors told me I will need a Lung Transplant soon and I should go for Single Lung Transplant because the waiting could be longer. Well took me while to understand that I can live with Single Lung Transplant. At home I was doing not much any more, even to take my shower i would need help to wash my hair. Well I was on 15 liters oxygen for exercise and most of the time I was on 12 liters. I did everything I could to keep my body healthy. I could feel I was getting progressive and I just believed from my heart that God would do a Miracle in my life. Everybody that I know and people I did not know started pray for me. After 4 calls for a Lung Transplant on July 26, 2014 I received i call on the morning that changed my life. I had my Single lung Transplant and I am a life. After 3 weeks I can tell I love to be a life and I am so thankful to all Lord to have a change to be here today and I promise I will take care my new lung very well. Thank you for everyone who have been support and help me. I am starting another journey here after Transplant but much better Journey. I am going to have Medical Bills and Medication and this page is for help me with this. If it touch your heart and you can help I appreciate any thing. Thank you for your time and the best thing in life is breathe. I will keep update how I am doing. Right now I am trying to recovery and get usually to all the medication I am taking . I am sure day after day I will feel better. The important thing is not how fast you can do it , the important things is never give up and do it any how you can. TAKE CARE, JO
