It is with great sadness we report that Greg Wohar passed away on November 20, 2023. Family and friends have been working with Help Hope Live to raise money to help finance uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
In loving memory of Greg, Help Hope Live will continue to accept charitable donations to help defray uninsured costs that were incurred. Greg had chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because the nonprofit organization provides both tax-deductibility to the full extent allowed by law and fiscal accountability to contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds contributed will be used only to pay or reimburse medically related expenses.
To make a kind contribution to Greg’s memorial fundraising campaign, select the “Give” button on this page or call 800.642.8399.

In loving care and remembrance, thank you for your support.

Greg Wohar’s Kidney Transplant Update
As some of you may already know, Greg received his Gift of Life – a kidney transplant – on April 18, 2015.
We are pleased to inform you that Greg’s new kidney continues to function effectively despite a recent health set-back on July 18, which required emergency abdominal hernia surgical repair. The hernia repair operation (Greg’s second since 2010) was successful. However, due to Greg’s multiple abdominal surgeries this year, his ability to return to work as a full time chiropractor will be delayed until at least the spring of 2016. Greg has returned to work as an adjunct professor teaching Anatomy and Physiology at Westmoreland County Community College on August 24th.
At this time, Greg would like to thank you all for your generous financial support, which has greatly helped him to offset his out-of-pocket costs for expensive anti-rejection transplant medications, as well as for other transplant-related expenses. He would also like to thank you all for your prayer support, without which “I do not believe I would have been able to recover successfully to this point in time.” He believes it was a “direct result of prayer” which enabled him to survive his kidney rejection episode this past May, his recent emergency hernia repair on July 18th, as well as other complications that have arisen since his transplant operation in April.
However, Greg still remains in need of your financial assistance to help him meet the on-going uninsured expenses involved with his kidney transplant. To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please, consider a contribution.

Due to your generous contributions to HelpHOPELive, Greg’s quality of life has been significantly improved. He has not had to have a dialysis session since May of this year. He has been able to spend more quality of time with his two children, will be able to resume his teaching career at WCCC, and, God-willing, may be able to soon resume his chiropractic career in Irwin, PA. Your continued support will help him reach these goals. On Greg’s behalf, we sincerely appreciate your support.
With deep gratitude,
Family and Friends of Greg
Hi All-
I feel so very blessed to be able to mark one year of a successful transplant tomorrow! Overall, I’ve been doing well, despite several complications. This past week, I had a routine one year follow-up kidney biopsy, and the doctors told me that the kidney is functioning well. Being free from dialysis this past year has allowed me to have a fuller life – something that I cannot put a price on. All of you so generously enabled me to get through this first year financially -- as a large portion of the $8,200 in expenses was met through the fund established on the HelpHOPELive website. I cannot thank you enough.
The ongoing costs of post-transplant medications and procedures are still far more than I am able to manage. If you are able to make another tax-deductible donation through the website at this time, it would really mean a lot to me. I hope that this next year will see the resolution of many of the health issues I have experienced as my kidney continues to adjust to my body. I stay optimistic that I will one day be able to return to full-time employment and pay forward all of the goodness that I have received. God bless you all and especially the family of the anonymous kidney donor whose gift changed my life.
Thank you!
Hi All,
Kidney function is well thus far; praise God! Recently, lost a grant from the kidney foundation that was helping with my insurance premiums. The void leaves me with an additional $4,000 yearly expense, besides the cost of medications, which is challenging on a fixed income-teaching one class only at the college; thus the need for help. Anything that you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. If you are not in a position to donate, could you please offer a prayer for my kidney to continue to function. As always, may God bless you all for your kindness, your help and your consideration in this matter. Greg
Hi All,
hope you all are well. 2nd kidney biopsy on 9-3-15 was successful--kidney is healthy and working fine. Thanks again for all your prayers and financial support. I thank God for all of your kindness and generosity on a daily basis, and you are all in my prayers. My kids say thanks as well.
Greg
Hi All,
Feeling much better and kidney is working well. Don't need to report back to clinic for 2 weeks. Creatinine value is down to 1.8 (normal is 1.4 or less).
God is good! Thanks to all my donors and prayer warriors--I am eternally grateful to you all!
Yours in Christ,
Greg
Hi All,
well, the kidney is at an all-time low creatinine value of 1.9 as of May 20, 2015, which indicates the function keeps progressively improving. Still having pain and abdominal discomfort, but grateful for the improved kidney function.
Hope you all are well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all my donors--this wouldn't be possible without you!
God bless,
Greg
Had a setback which began last Friday night. Had to go to hospital for 5 days for anti-rejection treatment as my body began to reject the kidney. Treatment seems to have corrected the rejection issue, and creatinine this morning was at 2.8 (an all-time low for this kidney). Please pray that the rejection issue does not return, and that kidney continues to improve.
Once again, thanks for all your support; you are all in my prayers.
Greg
Hi All,
had another excellent check-up yesterday, as my creatinine dropped to 4.5 (from 7.5). Getting closer to a normal creatinine value of less than 1.5.
Feeling much better as new kidney is functioning effectively. Losing a lot of fluid and the excess swelling in face and abdomen is going down.
Thank you all for your kindness, your prayers, and your generosity.
Greg
Hi All,
got another excellent check-up today at Montefiore Hospital. My creatinine dropped to 7.5 (from 8.5), and I need it to eventually drop to less than 1.5. Urine output is satisfactory. All is well and the kidney seems to be functioning better with each passing day.
Wishing you all the best as I continue to pray for your needs and intentions.
With love and warm wishes,
Greg
Good afternoon prayer warriors and supporters,
I had my second outpatient visit today at the Starzyl Transplant Center in Montefiore Hospital. Urine output has doubled in the past two days! The doctors are waiting for the creatinine clearance to improve, as this lab value has the most direct correlation with improved kidney function. My value is at 8.5 (as of this morning), and I need that value to drop to below 1.4 for normal kidney function to be restored. God bless you all for your kindness and generosity. You are all in my prayers daily. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Greg
Arrived home from Montefiore Hospital last night. Now, it's just a waiting game for the 'sleeping kidney' to wake up. I have complete trust in God who has brought me so far. Thanks to all of you, my friends and family, who have been praying and pulling for me to get this kidney. I will continue to offer my recovery pains for you and your loved ones, and for God to continue to bless you all with good health, a prosperous and long life! Greg 4/24/15
