Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, for the past several years, I have been battling End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The past seven years, I have been on dialysis three days per week, between three to four hours each day. These treatments were keeping me alive. After 5 years on dialysis, my improved health afforded me the opportunity to work part-time. I was blessed to work in a Christian preschool three days a week, which helped with my health care expenses. (American Kidney Fund paid my MEDICARE Supplemental Health care insurance only while I was on dialysis).
A miracle from heaven occurred ! April 11, at 5:30 p.m. I received the call from Methodist Hospital downtown. “Debi, are you ready for your kidney transplant?” “YES!” was my answer. I called my team and we rushed downtown by 9:00 p.m. that same evening. By 10:00 a.m. the next morning I had received my miracle kidney transplant.
Due to the extraordinary expense of transplantation, as well as my newfound unemployment, funding this life-saving operation is a monumental task. Despite having Medicare, many of my medical needs are not covered and must be paid out-of-pocket. I will need between $700. and $1000. a month to pay for my MEDICARE supplemental health care insurance for the months of September & October 2016 and assistance purchasing my lifelong immune suppressant medications. This presents a challenge I cannot meet alone. I will not be able to return to work until the end of August 2016. My first pay check will not be paid until the last week in September.
My August health care insurance was paid by a donor who wishes to remain unanimous. To assist with my uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHopeLive, a non-profit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHopeLive in South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHopeLive for transplant-related expenses only. You can help make a difference in my life. Please consider making a contribution.
We can make difference if we work together during this challenging time. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
Blessings,
Debi Crowel

Yesterday, 5/19, I saw my doctors and I received an EXCELLENT REPORT on my health. My miracle kidney is working well. My creatinine, which tells the doctors how well my kidney is working, is down to 1.0. For me this is an amazing number as when I went into the hospital the number was at 7. A normal creatinine level falls between 0.5 and 1.5. God is GOOD !!
