For the past 26 years, my loving wife, Myra Jones has been suffering from kidney disease. In the past 2 years her health has declined rapidly, she is in end stage renal failure and has been diagnosed with FSG (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis). Her doctors at the University of North Carolina Hospital have told us that she is in need of a life-saving kidney transplant.
Myra is a loving wife, devoted mother of our two adult children, an elementary special education teacher, helps me in the Sunday school class at church, and a good friend to many. She enjoys spending her time with family and friends remaining positive and always smiling while bringing light to those around her. She looks forward to a future full of energy doing many things she is not able to do now.
Even with insurance there are many medical expenses related to the transplant that are not covered and must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, our travel to and from the hospital and Myra will be on a life-time of expensive anti-rejection medications. We are also hoping to find a living donor that is a match for Myra and will need to cover those expenses as well. This puts us up against a challenge we cannot meet alone and need your help.
To ease this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Myra’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
