Dear Family and Friends,
As many of you know, my husband Alton, has been battling end-stage renal disease for several years. He began receiving dialysis treatment in-center three days a week for 3-4 hours each time. Eventually he was able to do the home hemodialysis six days a week for 3-3.5 hours a day.
Because of his kidney disease, Alton has been unable to work or preach the gospel as he did for many years. One of his greatest desires is to be active in the ministry once again-teaching and preaching the Word of God. Fortunately he was placed on the transplant waiting list but it has been 7 years since then. His doctors from Vanderbilt University Medical Center tell us Alton needs a life-saving transplant now.
We are grateful my husband has Medicare, but it does not cover all the costs relating to the transplant. Our main concern is the extraordinary expense of the immunosuppressant medications that must be taken to prevent his body from rejecting the new kidney. These must be taken for life. It is projected he will need from $20,000 to $40,000 for his lifelong immunosuppressant medications. This is a challenge we cannot meet alone.
To help with these costs not paid by Medicare, a fundraising campaign in Alton’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a non-profit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. You can help make a difference in my husband’s life.
A familiar quote from the Bible says â€It is better to give than to receive.†Please open your hearts and give today to help save my husband’s life.
