Even with insurance, Charlotte is facing extraordinary out of pocket expenses including rehabilitation expenses, assistive devices like the specialized standing wheel chair, an accessible modified car/van, and additional therapies. The initial fundraising goal is for the specialized standing wheelchair. In the event we reach that goal, we will set a new goal for the modified vehicle. As a mother of three young children, it is very important for Charlotte to have a sense of independence and the ability to transport herself and her children to appointments, events, or just a trip to the park.
To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Charlotte’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only.
Please help us in our efforts to help Charlotte whether by making a donation or reposting this anywhere you can. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
While Charlotte finally received the standing wheel chair we raised funds for she is still in need of assistance. Any funds raised are placed in a lifetime account to help her with any on-going medical expenses and life resources (modified vehicles, ADA compliant living conditions, etc.). While we thank everyone has donated if you have a few extra dollars at the end of this year we would appreciate anything you can donate. Remember HHL donations are 100% tax deductible.
We are less than $500 away from getting the standing wheel chair for Charlotte. She is going to place the order on Monday and it should be ready in 6 weeks. Please help us raise that final amount!
LeeAnn Scalia has this update from her fundraiser at work:
I'm so happy to announce that the employees of ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance Branch 40020 in Colorado Springs along with Tire King of Falcon in Falcon, Colorado have raised a total of $558.00 during our 3 month penny fundraiser campaign.
LeeAnn Scalia: I'm so happy to announce that we have collected $69.12 for Charlotte in the first two weeks of our office competition! We've had a vendor also show interest in joining our champaign as well! Yay!
HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY to Charlotte's little miracle baby (tomorrow, May 13). Born happy and healthy exactly 9 months post accident!
It is Charlotte's birthday on April 15 (4/15). Let's give her a great birthday gift by raising $415 by her birthday!
We just finished our clothing drive fundraiser. Should know within a few days what our grand total raised is. https://www.facebook.com/events/295032433979024/303924953089772/?notif_t=plan_mall_activity
$4,429 is current amount raised. That update to this page will be made within the next month. We need to close out accounts and transfer funds to here via my employee matching fund - which will increase this overall amount.
Charlotte was in a critical motorcycle accident in August 2012 which left her as a tetraplegic. She has a wheel chair for everyday use and that can easily be transported.
However, she has the opportunity to also get a chair that will allow her to stand but insurance will not cover the entire cost. We are hoping to raise $8,000 to cover the remaining cost of a standing wheelchair that will allow her more independence such as standing at the kitchen counter to make dinner for her family, standing at the changing table to change her babies diaper and many other daily tasks that most of us take for granted each day. In addition to the independence it is also good for her health to help keep circulation flowing, eliminate pressure point sores, reduce muscle spasticity and increasing bone density to name just a few. Standing for at least one hour per day offers her all of these health benefits.
In the event we raise more than $8,000 the remaining money will be saved in her account to be used towards future expenses such as the purchase of a handicapped accessible car/van that is modified for her to drive, home modifications, additional therapy, etc. . As a young mother to three young children it is very important for Charlotte to have a sense of independence and not need to continually rely on her parents (whom she is currently living with) to transport her and her children to any appointments, events or just a trip to the park.
Any donations to this account or to the various fundraising events we will be posting to this site will be greatly appreciated.
