Roger needs a transplant and needs your help.
As most of you know, Roger has been battling end stage renal failure for four years now, enduring grueling dialysis treatments to stay alive. Doctors have determined that his only real shot at a better quality of life is to receive a kidney transplant, as soon as possible.
Thirteen years ago, Roger underwent a liver transplant. The medications that he has taken since that time have destroyed his kidneys. The liver transplant and its complications meant that Roger has never been well enough to return to work. This has created a great financial hardship.
Roger grew up in Warrensburg where he was an outstanding high school athlete. Before getting sick, he enjoyed skiing, skating, tennis and golf. He is an avid NY Yankees fan. Roger helped raise my three children from a previous marriage and together we raised two grandchildren. The man who never had any biological children of his own is now an adoring “Grandpa Roger” who looks forward to a future of renewed health with his family.
Fortunately, Roger’s granddaughter, Caitlin Stewart, has offered to donate a kidney to UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) so that they, in turn, will find him a matching kidney. This is a true blessing!
Currently, Roger is completing his medical evaluation at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. However, due to the extraordinary expense of transplantation, funding this life saving operation is a monumental task. Despite having insurance, many of Roger’s medical needs are not covered and must be paid out-of-pocket. The expense of traveling to and from the transplant center and staying in a hotel also adds up fast. It all presents a challenge that Roger cannot meet alone.
To help with uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in Roger’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPE Live in the New York Kidney Transplant Fund and are administered for transplant-related expenses only. You can help make a difference in Roger’s life. Please consider a donation.
Together we can make a difference by assisting Roger during this difficult time. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
With sincere gratitude,
Judy Niles (518-384-0033)
