My name is Nadia. I am 33 years old, and the mother of a beautiful eight year old daughter. I have battled diabetes for over 20 years, which has led to many other complications in my life. I have always tried to look after my health but there were times in my life when I simply couldn’t afford proper care.
In 2012, I thought I had my health in control, seeing doctors regularly, able to get medications needed and feeling good. A doctor I was seeing was concerned about my kidney labs and referred me to a specialist. It was at that time my world was rocked! The specialist took one look at my labs and immediately admitted me to the hospital to begin dialysis. I was in shock that I was so sick yet had no idea. A week later, I was discharged from the hospital and on a 3x/week dialysis schedule. But I had a six year old to take care of on my income alone, and my ability to work had just been revoked. I was scared! My faith was definitely being tested. While on hemodialysis, I learned of peritoneal dialysis, which one is able to do at home. That was all I needed to know; I could be available for my princess again. Since then I have had some complications, hospital stays, and surgeries that have cause brief interruptions in treatments at home. But dialysis is never a good long-term solution
Recently, the transplant team at the Mayo Clinic has determined that I am a good candidate for a kidney transplant. I have lost a bunch of weight to be within range for transplant surgery. I am working extremely part-time and just trying to make the most of each day with my daughter. My current concern though is a financial one. High insurance premiums along with co-pays, life-long anti-rejection medications and other expenses are keeping me up at night. This is why I am turning to you for help.
I have chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because HelpHOPELive assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse my medically-related expenses. I remain extremely hopeful and positive. I know that this transplant will give my daughter back her healthy mommy. And this will be a great gift to us both.
Thank you!
