As many of you may know, Marty Shaffer, a resident of Kingsport, TN is up against a challenge he cannot face alone. In 1990, a golf ball size tumor was found on his Pituitary Gland. The pituitary gland is responsible for releasing hormones and chemicals including growth hormone, to make the body function properly. Since having his pituitary gland removed, Marty’s body is in a constant mutating state and his heart has grown exponentially larger with only 8% total function. The need for a heart transplant has become urgent.
While Marty’s insurance does cover a heart transplant, it does not cover the very costly immunosuppressant medications and pituitary supplement that he will have to take for the rest of his life. In addition to medication expenses, Marty will have temporary relocation costs to be close to the hospital for daily check-ups for six to eight weeks following transplant; insurance doesn’t help with these expenses.
To help with the extreme financial burden of Marty’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Heart Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution today by clicking on the DONATE NOW button.
Please help Marty get his second chance whether by making a donation or reposting this appeal wherever you can. Also, look for fundraising events on this page. Please know that your contribution counts.
Thank you,
The family of Marty Shaffer
Marty,
We met at a laundry mat in Knoxville when I first moved back to Tennessee in 1996 and have been best friends since then. I am so thankful you offered to help me fold my blankets that day. : ) You are one of the strongest people I know. You have always been there for me and for anyone else that needed you. I love you always and forever. Glitter, sequins, and pearl cream!

Marty, I had the pleasure of meeting you at my daughters wedding. Over the years she has kept me informed about your medical problems. Will continue to pray that you get your transplant and things go well for you and yours.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
Marty,
We are praying that the good Lord will comfort, heal you and protect you in the palm of His loving hand.
Love and God Bless You,

Marty, I do not know you personally, but I know your cousin Justin. Justin is a personally hero of mine and a huge inspiration. I will continue to spread this message in every form I can. Hang in there! You are in my thoughts and prayers!
