David Ludwig is a 28 year-old man who was born with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). He has health insurance but there are plenty of expenses that are not covered.
He was diagnosed as an infant and has fought a gallant fight against the disease his entire life. His only hope for survival was a double lung transplant, which he received on July 16, 2014! But he experienced rejection and had a second double lung transplant on December 11, 2015! He needs your help because the cost of another transplant is overwhelming. David and his family are committed to seeing him through the transplant recovery process.
David grew up in Huntington Beach, CA. Those who know him will attest to the fact that he is sensitive, generous, very intelligent and has a dry sense of humor. He was a recipient of the 2004 Youth Character Award and a film he produced was an official selection to the 2010 Newport Beach Film Festival. He has been working towards a degree in Psychology for years but had to drop out last year due to his failing health. He was an avid golfer but has since given up the sport due to his extreme breathlessness. David is eager to resume and complete his studies and desires to use his life experience as a warrior and survivor (!) to help others in similar situations.
Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. David is one of the “lucky” ones with CF who got new lungs, not once, but twice. Truly a miracle! Now he is faced with astronomical expenses. Even with insurance, David is facing very high medical costs. He will endure a lengthy hospitalization now, multiple weeks in the Intensive Care Unit, post operative care, ongoing post transplant medication costing $10,000 a month, various copays, lab fees and more. He has had incredible care from a team of experts at USC Keck Medical Center in Los Angeles. They include doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and many more. They are amazing, and expensive.
To help with the financial burden of David’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please consider a contribution.
Thank you for your prayers, support and generosity. Keep an eye on the website because we will be planning some fundraising events soon.
Gratefully,
Norma Ludwig, David’s Mom
Well the surgery was successful but the last two days at Keck have been stressful even though David is strong and a fighter. Dave's Mom and Dad were not able to see him at all yesterday due to the goings on in the ICU. David was finally taken to surgery late yesterday afternoon to have his chest closed up since it was left slightly open during the lung surgery to accommodate swelling. They were not able to see him that evening at all. Tonight he's showing some breathing instability that may require a bronchoscope this evening. On a better note, he appears to be producing a small amount of urine so dialysis has been postponed for now. Please continue to pray for David, his family, and the family who lost a loved one so he could have another chance at life! Especially...pray for pee!
Dave is in surgery right now. Praying for you David. And for the family of the person who donated lungs. Priceless gift.
Dave had a better day today. He "took a sizable walk in the hallway then rode outside to get fresh air, the first in 3-4 weeks."
David is still at Keck. He has finally left the ICU for a room in a step down unit that handles people on ventilators. He's still suffering though. It's heartbreaking. He periodically has episodes of extreme shortness of breath that sets off all the alarms. The fact that he is silent is also difficult. His doctor is hoping that he will stabilize enough to come home on a home ventilator so he can "wait" in the comfort of home. His Mom placed a small artificial Christmas tree in his hospital room window in an attempt to enjoy "the season." Not easy to do. When his Mom asked him what she could do for him, he mouthed "pray." That is what she is asking all of you to do. The situation calls for another miracle. God did it once in July 2014. Dave needs another miracle. Please pray. Thank you.
David still has the tracheostomy, which comes at a high price since he is not able to talk. For those of us who know Dave, that is really difficult for him. However, it does provide easier breathing, treatments and prolongs his life while he waits for lungs, part deux. Today was a rough day for Dave. The doctors did an emergency bronchoscopy, bedside. His mobility is extremely limited due to the ventilator. Fight on Dave!
David is on the 5th floor at Keck on the transplant list. Today is Giving Tuesday. Did you give?
Today is Black Friday. Take a break from shopping and donate to help a guy who is waiting for lungs. He is in the ICU at Keck USC in Los Angeles. Join the #unselfiemovement and take a pic of yourself donating. Post it. Thanks!
David is still at Keck in the hospital. Still on the list and still waiting for lungs. Today is Thanksgiving. Please give thanks. Please give!

David remains in the ICU at Keck in Los Angeles. He is on a ventilator and is hoping for a new pair of lungs soon. Thank you for your prayers.
David is awaiting new lungs, for a second time. Thsi is the latest from his Mom: 'We are still at Keck/USC. David was relisted on the transplant list as of last Friday so now we are doing the waiting game. His health has deteriorated to the point that he requires the use of a ventilator to breathe. I was hoping at some point he would improve to the point that he might come home, but we were told that he will "be there for a while." Thanksgiving will be spent with him in the hospital. The good news is that we will still get to spend it with him. The hospital cafeteria has already listed the menu for Thanksgiving day, so those of us there with their loved ones and staff members working on Thanksgiving Day have not been forgotten. Keck/USC is such an awesome hospital.
My niece and nephew arrived yesterday from Texas to provide us with some much needed cheer. They are staying on through the holiday weekend. Bless them both and their parents, my sister Karen and her husband Robert, for sacrificing this holiday with their own children. We spent the afternoon with David yesterday reminiscing about their childhoods together and other family stories. I haven't seen David laugh so much in years. The nurse attending him yesterday, Ray, was so intrigued with our stories that he told us, when he too wasn't laughing, that he thought we'd be a fun bunch to go camping with. It was a wonderful afternoon!
Thank you again in advance for thinking of us. Please continue to pray for David. I appreciate your efforts so much. Have a blessed Thanksgiving wherever you may be."
Stay tuned. Dave's odyssey continues.
EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it! David went home yesterday afternoon, Oct. 2nd, 2014.
After three months at USC, David was released from USC. His new lungs are working well and he is almost walking without support. He will return to Transplant Clinic twice weekly for the next few weeks and continue to see physical and occupational therapy for a while longer. His new life is truly miraculous and he is so grateful to be alive!
His immediate request upon leaving the hospital was to drive through Popeye's, a southern fast food eatery, and partake of some Cajun chicken strips with Cajun fries and a biscuit. He said that the food never tasted so good!
An immense thank you to all of you who prayed for us and contributed to this fund during the previous difficult months. God is good and He still performs miracles!
Today David was officially discharged from Keck/USC Medical Center and entered into the pulmonary rehabilitation program. He has begun his final ascent into his post transplant recovery. He is getting stronger with each passing day and his doctors are very upbeat about his future. Thanks once again for those of you who have supported us with your prayers and donations. David is proof of God's love and faithfulness.
David was finally moved from ICU into a regular room. He is breathing well on his own and is now working on his physical therapy. He is still weak but his strength is gradually returning. At some point in the future he will graduate to the rehab floor for the final leg of his recovery. No word on when that happens, but, he has made miraculous strides since June 26th when he was at death's door. Please continue to pray for him. Blessings to each and every one of you who have faithfully seen us through this journey.
David is progressing with each passing day. He breathes on his own now and is up and about. His physicians have said that he will most likely be moved out of ICU early next week. What a miracle! Please continue to pray for his complete healing and may he live a long and healthy new life!
David's progress at this writing is nothing short of amazing. Despite a series of setbacks during the first month of recovery, he appears to have turned a corner. He took his first steps with the aid of a walker last Thursday, Sept. 4th. Most of the time he is breathing without the aid of oxygen. He is having a lot of foot pain as of late caused by nerve damage, but once again the awesome doctors at Keck/USC have made the diagnosis and are treating the pain. This problem should resolve itself in time. The plan is for David to finally leave ICU to the regular floor once he has regained his strength and mobility. At that time he will enter a special rehabilitation program for lung transplantees. Hopefully he will return home sometime later this Fall. What a miracle! Thank you for your prayerful and financial support during this very challenging time.
Very good news. David's kidneys have returned to pretransplant function - no more dialysis. It appears very soon he will be removed from the ventilator at night and he shall begin to breathe normally with his new lungs. He is gaining physical strength with every passing day as he works diligently with the physical therapists at USC. There is a rumor circulating within ICU that he may be well enough to return home by Halloween. Much has to happen before then but David is living proof of God's faithfulness and the occasion of miracles.
After a week of health reversals, David is improving very slowly. A biopsy of his new lungs revealed no infection nor rejection. Frankly everyone is a little puzzled as to the cause of his breathlessness and return to the ventilator last week. As of today, he was once again breathing on a trach collar, a step closer to independent breathing. He still requires dialysis every other day however, as his kidney function is still under par. He is gaining strength alittle every day. Thanks to all of you who are following his progress.
David is progressing and improving slowly. His urine production is up and they have removed all but one chest tube. He still receives dialysis as needed since his kidneys remain stubborn. He will have the trach for a while which is frustrating for him. He has been able to leave the ICU and go outside several times, but he is not yet ready for the rehab floor. He is off of the ventilator most of the time and has been well enough to sit up, watch TV and do a few puzzles. Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
David is continuing to recover but running into some new difficulties. He is having foot pain that is preventing him from getting out of his hospital bed and transferring to rehab. His oxygen saturation is good and he was off of the ventilator for most of the day yesterday. His kidneys remain stubborn and have not come on line 100% yet. They are continuing to do dialysis to help his kidneys until they come back to full function. He is still in the ICU but was transferred to a room with a lower level of care. Our hope now is for his continued recovery and for resolution of these problems. We really want him to be able to leave the ICU and move on to the 2nd floor for rehab!
David is recovering but he is encountering some problems along the way, which is to be expected. He is much more alert and was able to be completely off of the ventilator for most of yesterday. He is back on it again today and we hope that he will be completely off of it soon. His kidneys have come back on line to some extent but he is still waiting for them to kick into high gear. They are still a bit stubborn. His medical team has done dialysis a few times to keep David from building up toxins. His cousin Benjamin is in California to visit him and we are very glad to have Ben here with us. David's recovery is slow and steady, generally 2 steps forward and 1 step back. We ask for your continued prayers and thank you for your support and generosity.
More huge milestones for David as well as new challenges. David is sitting up, conscious, and his vitals are good. The ECMO machine was removed and his new lungs are working. He is on a lot of medications that make him a bit disoriented, however, for the first time last night, he was well able to read and respond to texts on his smartphone. David is back! And for that we are very, very thankful. However, the road to recovery is a long one and there will be bumps along the way, large and small. The greatest current challenge is that his kidneys are refusing to do their job. The staff at Keck has been doing dialysis but so far his kidneys have not recovered from the shock of the double lung transplant. Please keep David in your prayers.
David's new lungs appear to be settling in nicely. His skin color is a color it hasn't been in years - Rosie! The single complication post op is no kidney function as of yet. Hopefully this is a temporary situation that may resolve itself in time. In the meantime, temporary dialysis has been started. He practices with the physical therapists daily and is gradually gaining strength.
David has encountered a problem related to the transplant. His kidneys are stubbornly refusing to come back online. We are hopeful that this problem will resolve soon.
This morning, July 16, 2014, David was reborn with a new set of healthy lungs. We received word from the doctors at Keck/USC that last night's transplant operation went well. We are very grateful to the donor and his/her family for making the ultimate sacrifice so that David might have another chance at life. Please include these people in your prayers. I am sure they need comfort during a very difficult time. We are hopeful that in the near future we will be able to thank them personally.
As of this morning, David is resting comfortably in his room in the ICU. The ECMO machine was removed this morning and the doctors expect he will start breathing on his own within the next 24 hours. He is still using his trach.
We will visit him for the first time this morning and will post further information when it becomes available. Thank you once again to all of you who have supported us with your prayers and generous donations. God Bless you all.
Today is Sunday and David is continuing to gain strength. He is fully alert and we have explained to him, generally, the ordeal that he has been through the past two weeks. He is still unable to speak but we are getting better at reading lips. He is now aware of all of the things he is hooked up to including the ECMO. He watched movies last night with his Aunt Becky-- Ender's Game and Gravity. Last night was the first time that he has been completely alert and completely off of all sedation. He is aware of what is going on now and asking questions. It will take a few more days for him to adjust without sedation to all of the tubes, catheters and IVs, as well as necessary pocking and prodding. We are hoping that he will be able to walk next week. Today he also got a haricut and a shave. Handsome! Our continued thanks to all of you for caring and support.
Today was a big day for David. He is so much more alert. They had him stand up today, another huge milestone! He can't talk yet because of the the trach but he is mouthing words and really trying to communicate. He is officially "listed" for a transplant so now it is just a matter of time. He's back to his old self mouthing comments that are too colorful for polite company. Go Dave!
David's procedure went really well. His medical team is awesome. The large invasive breathing tube was removed and a trach put in Dave's neck. He is continuing to improve. His Aunt Becky arrived today. She sang a refrain of his favorite song to him ("Love to the Love") and he smiled. She harassed him (in a good way) and was SO hapy to see him! He was responsive today and got excited with his visitors, maybe a little too excited. He is trying to speak but it will be difficult until he recovers a bit more. GO DAVE!
This afternoon David is scheduled for surgery to remove the breathing tube and to perform the tracheostomy. Before that his doctor will do a bronchoscopy to clear mucus out his lungs. The trach will make him more comfortable and will make it easier for him to move around. We are having some unexpected and unsettling drama about the medical insurance coverage, creating uncertainty and making an extremely difficult situation that much worse. The team here at USC Keck is working on it but it is very stressful. David is in the fight of his life and the insurance company claims he is not covered. This development is devastating, but we remain hopeful that Keck will work it out.
David spent yesterday resting and doing PT/OT. He still has pain and discomfort but he is tough and is slowly getting better. Today one of the doctors on his team came by the ICU and said that they want to remove the breathing tube soon and replace it by doing a tracheostomy. That will be much more comfortable for David and will help him move another step closer to a transplant. It would create an opening in his neck to help him breathe, and is much less invasive than the breathing tube. He sat up in bed today and is progressing. It is a long road, but if anyone is up for it, it is David!
Today marks another milestone for David. Although he is weak from the battle he has been fighting on many fronts, he is off of sedation. He is exhausted and sleeping, which is to be expected. He came through the surgery to repair the blood vessel this weekend like a champ! Ending the sedation is a significant step forward in the journey. It will take some time for David to regain his strength, but he has been though quite an ordeal and his pep squad is here at Keck cheering him on! Go Dave!
The warrior is continuing to fight! Go Dave!!!! They sent David to Invasive Radiology yesterday for a Floroscan and then to surgery. The doctors at USC Keck found the source of the leaking blood and repaired the blood vessel last night. David is stable and continues to recover. We continue to do PT/OT everyday so he will be able to get out of the hospital bed soon and walk around. He has an army of people taking care of him at Keck and monitoring all of his vitals around-the-clock in the Intensive Care Unit. Infection is always a risk so we visit him in the ICU every day in gowns and scrubs. Aunt Sue and cousin Debbie were unable to come to the hospital this weekend because they have colds. It is too risky to have anyone in the room with anything they could give to David. We have been blessed with a visit from David's cousin Tamara, who was able to extend her visit until Tuesday. It has been so helpful to have her here to cheer David (and us) on! The support we have received, and continue to receive, sustains us. Thank you for all of your prayers, support, generosity, and kind words.
This afternoon David is in surgery again to find out the source of the bleeding. They will try to determine where it is coming from and then do what is necessary to stop it.
Today is Saturday July 5th. David has developed bleeding and so last night they had to give him some blood. He is on a blood thinner post op to keep him from developing a blood clot. He remains connected to the ECMO, which is doing the job for him that his lungs are unable to do. The OT/PT folks have added some exercises for Dave to keep his muscles from shortening so that when he is able to walk he won't suffer the effects of being in a hospital bed. They have his legs in special boots and he is hooked up to a whole host of tubes and monitors. We wear scrubs and masks to avoid introducing anything into his environment that could cause an infection. The staff at USC Keck is exceptional. David has an amazing team of doctors, nurses, technicians, and aids. He remains in the ICU with a high level of care. Tamara is here with us and she has been and continues to be a great help. David has so many people on his "team" and we are greatful for all of you. If you have not done so yet, please write a note to David in the guest book. If you already have, then send another note! We read your notes to him every day.
Please check out the photo gallery. A work in progress...
Today David, Norma, Steve and Tamara showed what troopers they are. David's medical team at Keck is continuing to wean David off of the sedation so they can get him up and around. He responded to Norma every time he was prompted today. He had some difficulty again today and his vitals got a little crazy the more he came around. PT/OT came in today to begin the process of getting him back to where he was before all of this happened to further ready him for a transplant. Things remain very emotional and very difficult. But everyone is a warrior here and your support throughout this ordeal is keeping us all going. We have the resolve to continue to keep up the good fight and we are so thankful to everyone who has sent cards, emails, texts, signed the guestbook and made donations. We appreciate all that everyone has done to help. To all of our friends, family, friends of friends, friends of family, anonymous donors, and perfect strangers who have taken a moment to help in whatever way you can, thank you!
THANK YOU to everyone who has given, whether $1, $5 or $500! Every dollar counts, and is much appreciated! THANK YOU! And don't forget to sign the guest book!
Today was a very good day for David. He is resting comfortably on the ECMO machine and he woke up today after six days of unconsciousness. He responded to the commands given to him and now will be rehabilitated so that he can be listed. Please continue to pray for him as the journey is still long. He demonstrated today to the USC staff that he is the fighter we all knew him to be. Go David!
Today, David journeyed one step closer to getting his new lungs. Of course, he had to do it the hard way. After a harrowing week of almost complete respiratory failure, the decision was made to put David on ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation). This is a medical devise that filters oxygen in and out of the bloodstream in the same manner as the lungs. The plan is to stabilize David's body and strengthen him for transplant. The journey is still long and arguous but it is a step in the right direction. Thank you for your continued support. I read what you write to him daily. Your support is paramount. Please visit his page often and leave words of encouragement.
This evening David is in surgery. They were unable to do the CT scan. They are going to hook him up to a machine that will oxygenate his blood for him and basically do the work of his lungs. His surgeon came in tonight to talk to us about the transplant. Dave, it is pretty cool that your transplant surgeon is a female! We also had a visit with Carlos Mendoza, a Pastor who came to the hospital from Montebello Calvary Chapel. A wonderful man--genuine and sincere. We will know more after the surgery tonight.
This morning they are doing a CT scan to assess Dave's condition. They continue to try to lesson the sedation. David is breathing with the help of machines and a tube. It is irritating and extremely uncomfortable to have things stuck down your air passages and so the natural reaction is to fight it. It is like trying to breath air through a straw, and the straw is poking you on the inside. They are trying to prevent his body from fighting against the tools they are using to help him breathe. So today is one more day in the journey and we are hopeful that the CT scan will help his team plan the next move. Thank you to all of you for your continued support.
Today has been another difficult day. They are trying to reduce the amount of sedation that David us under but he struggles and his vitals go crazy when they try to do so. He is fighting to breathe. If you can't breathe, nothing else matters. It appears that his fever has gone which is a good thing and they removed the "refrigerator blanket" that was keeping his body temperature cooler. David is a lifelong CF warrior and the battle is certainly not over! We love you Dave! If you have not signed Dave's guest book, please do so Dave can read all of your entries when he is able.
We are organizing a fundraising team and working on fundraising events. More to come! If you are interested in joining the team, please sign the guest book and let us know how we can contact you!
Yesterday was Sunday, a day to give thanks. It was another horrific day of watching David struggle to breathe. He is still sedated and on a breathing tube. He is still running a low grade fever. The good news is that all transplant testing has been completed and his case is scheduled to go before the transplant committee Wednesday. What that entails, I have no idea. Please continue to pray for him. All of your words of encouragement I copy down and read to him daily. They say people in coma like states often hear everything that is going on around them. Your thoughtfulness means a lot to David and comforts both myself and David's dad Steve knowing so many people care. Blessings to all.
David had another rough day and remains in critical condition. When we got to USC today he was burning up. He had a fever of 102 and they suspected a fungal infection. It was a scary roller coaster. The goal for the short term is to stave off infection and to get him off of the sedation and off of the breathing tube. They continue to suction mucus daily from him lungs. The respiratory therapist had pink hair and he seemed to try to open his eyes to see her. Maybe he thought she was his cousin Tamara! His aunts, cousins and grammie wanted to sing to him over the phone but his oxygen dropped and they didn't want the Loud Family to over stimulate him. The good news is that he was responsive to us somewhat. He is hanging on by a thread, but like a little champion. Fragile but so very, very tough. Thank you all so very much for your support and prayers.
David is now going to to have a full workup to get him ready for a double lung transplant at USC. He remains unconscious and hooked up to machines, tubes, pumps and IVs. We have begun our fundraising campaign to help cover the cost of the transplant and the long road ahead of medications and follow up care. The past several days have been harrowing and extremely difficult. Much of the expense will not be covered by insurance, and we are so grateful for all of your help, support (spiritual and financial), and love.
David survived the trip to USC. It took quite a while. He arrived despite the LA traffic and is now awaiting a transplant.
David is in an ambulance on his way to USC Medical.
They were able to stabilize Dave today. Norma and Steve cleared the medical insurance coverage hurdles (not easy!) and Dave will be transferred to USC Medical tonight around 6 p.m.
Dave is really struggling. He had a rough night. They are working hard to stabilize him. THANK YOU to all of you for your support and donations!
David almost lost his life today. He is thankfully with us, but his status has changed and become more dire. Machines are now breathing for him as his right lung is completely wasted. We have been advised to chose a local transplant center immediately because time is of the essence. Because of the pneumothorax of his right lung and the two chest tubes inserted to save his life, the journey to Duke Medical Center is completely off the table. Duke was our first choice because of the quality of care and the very short wait time. That is not God's will.
David's physician has advised us to have him transferred to USC in Los Angeles once he is stable because they have a CF Center, can handle critical care patients, and they are a transplant center. Steve and I made that decision today under the doctor's advisement. David will remain under the critical care of the CF and Transplant Team at USC in house until he can be transplanted. The significant risk is that a donor will not be found in time. Because of his critical condition he will likely be placed at or near the top of the list.
Please pray for him. I know I'm his mother, but David is a caring and generous soul who deserves a rebirth. Thanks to all of you who were praying for us during the most difficult day of our life thus far. We could feel ourselves being lifted. Praise God!
David is in critical condition. He is unconscious. His doctor is trying to get him to USC for a transplant.
David is in the Intensive Care Unit at Long Beach Memorial. He has a collapsed lung, a chest tube, and is on a ventilator. Time is of the essence! DONATE DONATE DONATE!
Today, June 24th, David is still hospitalized with pneumonia and pneumothorax. His breathing is labored and times are tough. We brought in some humorous quips from famous comedians to offer a little fun. David laughed! I was truly blessed. ...Norma

Dave---
Still needing a little help here since it happened again today. I was in my shop and had just finished staining a couple of sheaths (my fingers now literally look like I have been handling something unsavory and brown), when I heard the neighbor's dog start barking. That is nearly always a bad sign in these times. Anyway, I glanced out the window and yep, you guessed it. Three of the undead coming down my driveway in that odd, stiff legged, shuffling gait with which they walk. I think they must have come over from Chattanooga where there is still quite a large population. I slipped out of my shop and sneaked around the back, coming around the side, and adopting my best zombie imitation walk, fell in behind. I know it is fool hardy and flirting with danger, but still... I was able to get close enough to push the rear one into the pair in front causing a jumble of arms and legs as they fell down the rear bank, from the driveway. Then it was nah, nah, nan, nah, nah I did a silly little dance on my ancient legs while they grunted back back at me while groping each other in an attempt to get up and at me. I ran into the house and loudly slammed the door. I watched them as they hung around the back door waiting for me to come back out, for about 20 minutes, after which they dragged their stiff legs back up the driveway and headed back north. I either need to get a shotgun or gasoline for my chain saw. I want to put up a sign that says Ludwig and Lilly Zombie Exterminators, hoping they will give the place a wide berth, but I don't know if they can read. If you have any suggestions please advise.
Old Uncle Larry---
Dear David,
I have been really sad since you have not been at home. But I love Aunt Becky. Actually I love everyone. Get well and come home soon!

Hi Dave,
Only two more shopping days left until I arrive to sing "Love to the Love," live, and in person, in the ICU. Be afraid!
Love, Aunt Becky
David you are in my thoughts and prayers daily. My church is also praying for you to recover. May God's grace shine on you.

Hi Dave!
So glad to hear today's news! Rest well, dear man!
Rena Brady
Dear David, Doug and I are still praying for you and are glad that you are continuing to be such a great fighter! Keep fighting. I loved seeing pictures of you as a little boy. You were really a cutie! (Of course, you still are).
Eileen and Doug Yordy
Dear David,
To say that I have been praying for you would be a gross understatement. You mean so much to our family and you are so loved. (I'll try not to get too mushy- I know how embarrassed you get...) Plus, I need you to get that lung transplant and have a speedy recovery so you and I can go with the gang again to Knott's Berry Farm. You are the one I can count on to join me, laughing at and taunting your mom and my kids while they torture themselves on those crazy fast rides! You make it so much more fun, so please hang in there! so we can plan our next Knott's trip.
♥Love♥, Aunt Karen
Hey Dave,
Hey Dave.
I know you don't know me, but I cut your aunts hair yesterday and she told me all about you. She's an amazing lady and I've heard you're pretty spectacular, too. I really hope you get better Dave. I hear you make the world a little bit brighter. I'm praying for you.
Candice in Texas
Hey Dave it's Sergei. I hope you are doing better today and are recovering from surgery. I heard about your operation randomly on Facebook recently and have kept you in my thoughts man. I remember that Royal Rumble video we made way back as kids on your camcorder with Sexual Chocolate and other lesser wrestlers whom I dont remember at this point. Anyway, I wish you a speedy recovery and you take the people's elbow to CF.
Sergei
Hi Dave!
Thinking of you and sending good energy and prayers! Hugs!

Dear David,
From Psalms 30 and 31: "O Lord, my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me. ... You have kept me alive...Sing praise to the Lord. His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. .... You are my rock and my fortress. ... You are my strength." Psalm 32: "You are my hiding place."
Much love, Grammie K
Dear David,
I am a friend of your Aunt Rebecca. She has told me a great deal about you. It is clear to me that she loves you deeply and that she would give just about anything to see you get out of that hospital bed so you can get those lungs. She is very persistent, and according to her, so are you! If anyone can push through this, it is you.
A Friend Who Cares
Dear David, I don't know you personally, but I am a covenant sister of your aunt Sue. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Keep up the faith!
Magaly Rodriguez
Dear Dave,
My Mama says that she will come to see you next Thursday. This is a big ditching! Grammie said it would be okay. I told Mama that she can stay as long as she needs to. She's bringing a bone for Hank. It was too gross to eat. Woof!
Love, Harold
Dear David,
Sorry I have not been able to be there physically. I'm not like I used to be when we hit the malls and KB Toys. But my thoughts and prayers are with you every day. I guess that you will just have to come and see me when you get your new lungs. You are a trooper and always have been!
Much love, Grammie K
Ok, I need a little help here. This morning I innocently walked out of my shop carrying a blade I'd just ground out and bang! I was attacked by not 1, not 2, not 3, but by an entire band of zombies. I barely made it to the garage, got inside, and slammed the door before they caught me. Naturally I immediately turned on the XBOX, inserted Left 4 Dead 2, located a chain saw and went to work. I think the area around here is cleansed of the brain suckers for right now, but I could use some help keeping this area of Georgia zombie free. Just sayin' the sooner you get out of the hospital, the soon we can make the world a safer place, and L4D3 is supposed to come out this Fall.
Old Uncle Larry---
Dave,
When we go to Vegas can we PLEASE go to see Celine Dion? And Murray, the magician from AGT? And the Pawn Stars Gold & Silver pawn shop? I want to get Chum's autograph. Remember wrestling at the Sharks arena in San Jose and the death defying drive in the rain? "Rocky sucks, Rocky sucks!"
Love to the love, Aunt Becky
I am a friend of your Aunt Rebecca...I pray for you every day, David!! I was so happy to hear you are awake now! Time to fight for those new lungs so you can get back to school (and golf of course!) !! :)
Debbie Murray
David:
Your aunt Rebecca sent me an email re you. You sound like a real fighter. Glad to read that you are making progress. Your many family and friends are rooting for you.
A friend of Rebecca's.
Hey Dave...It was great seeing how well you did yesterday! YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR ~ I am so proud of you!!! And in your honor, for now, I'm setting aside my bruin ways as I say FIGHT ON! Keep up the good work and listen to your mother, you know she's always right! Love you,
Cindy Boulanger
It's almost embarrassing to say I am related to the two comments previous to this one of mine! Words do not describe how grateful I am to be with you in person this week. There's no where I would rather be in the world than with my best friend. Today you responded to Norma and my voice for the first time in 6 days. In that moment, I knew you had not given up this fight. The same smart, stunning, stubborn, and brave David Ludwig was still there that everyone knows and loves. These past few days have been difficult for you, but it can only improve if you have the will and faith in God to stay strong and fight. I cannot wait to see what I KNOW you're capable of doing! I don't need to tell you how much we all care and love you, because by now I am sure you're sick of hearing it! ;) Keep going, I believe in God and I believe in you. With a pair like that, I also believe nothing is impossible. I look forward to gaming with you on steam soon with your NEW LAPTOP! Love you, you're in my every prayer.
Your cousin Tamara
Dear David,
I feel so bad for you. I always love you and I always want you to get better. You are always in my heart. And so all I want for my birthday is for you to feel happy or to feel better. ♥
XOXO
Love, your cousin Johnny (:
Dear David,
In case your mom didn't already relay this message to you, I will say it again. As you know, I am super sappy so I must tell you that ♥♥♥ I love you and you're in my heart♥♥♥. I can't wait until you can roll your eyes again to all of my sappiness. (= Feel better and stronger soon. Praying often for you!!!
Love, Aunt Karen
Hello David,
Keep fighting the good fight. There are people around you who are very much looking forward to the opportunity to show you that your efforts are very much worth it, that life is very much worth experiencing.
William Regner
Dear David,
I am a close friend of Brynn Enevoldsen. I have met your parents but unfortunately, haven't had the pleasure of meeting you! I am praying for you and hope this donation will help you reach the goal of obtaining those new lungs! My cousin's daughter also continues to battle CF so I know a little about this disease. I have heard so much about you and I know you have what it takes to beat this!
Sending you love, faith and hope,
Kari Johansen
Hi Dave,
We have been planning fundraisers and collecting donations to help pay for your transplant. You have more support out there than you know! Tamara is working on a design for a T-shirt and we have already raised about $4,000 to help pay for the costs. You are a brave little warrior! You have struggled too hard for too long, so don't even think about giving up now. By the way, I have decided to crash the Las Vegas trip, which, I know, really surprises you!
Love,
Aunt Becky
To my beloved cousin David,
Life has demanded more from you than anyone else I have ever met. We've all anticipated this dark storm you are going through and knew it would be daunting because so far it is the hardest thing you have ever been through and the same goes for Aunt Norma, Uncle Steve, and the rest of your supporters who love you. HOWEVER, under your circumstances you have shown more courage and bravery than anyone else I have met because you have lived life to the fullest and after you have had your transplant, arrive at home, and recover you WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE LIFE TO ITS FULLEST! I know that because of how strong you are after you withstand this nightmare, you will be rewarded by god to live a dream of being able to experience air like you've never experienced it before. (“God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, or sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.”- Smith Wigglesworth) Please keep faith David because that will be your strongest weapon against CF.
P.S. I’m looking forward to spend time with you at the Pinball museum in Las Vegas.
Benjamin
David, wishing you the very best!! I had an aunt with CF. It's a mean disease. Hang in there, and keep fighting! I hope my contribution helps get you those new lungs.
Best wishes!!
Jill Breseke
Dear Dave,
Tamara will be there to see you tomorrow! I will be there on the 10th. Keep holding your own. There are a lot of people looking forward to enjoying your sarcasm and wit.
Love,
Aunt Becky
You are in all of our thoughts David. You need to make it out of this so we can all have a great time together again. You're incredibly brave and strong. I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this. When this is all blown over and you are feeling better, let's get the HB crew and have a blast together like we always do when we gather. Please stay strong, you can push through this!
Ryan Bremer
Hang in there. You have been in our prayers. I hope they come out with L4D3. It has been promised for quite a while as I'm sure you know. Mostly I've been making knives, but yesterday it was so hot and humid that I came into the house and exterminated a load of zombies on the XBox. I thought of you joining me to rid the world of the brain eaters. After you get out of the hospital we need to get together on the box and go after them.
Uncle Larry
David, my family and I have been bombarding God with prayers for you! Hang in there, as there are happy days waiting for you after you get your new lungs! ♥ Love you!!!!!!!!!♥
Aunt Karen and team Podell
David, I'm so glad I got to spend some time with you last Saturday. I am praying for a new lungs for you and strength and comfort for your mom and dad.

Brynn Enevoldsen
David, You're in my prayers for a new set of lungs and another day when we can go hike with Aunt Becky and your mom and dad behind Cliff House in San Francisco. I'll always remember the fun we had that day and the little figures that you brought with you to hike the hill. Your Aunt has raved about you the whole time I've known her--she adores and loves you so much. Take care and trust in God. Love and Hugs, Janis

We have known of your battle for many years through our close relationship with your loving Aunt Rebecca. May this final effort provide you with the quality of life you have been denied and so richly deserve. Our fingers are crossed and we look forward to good news from Duke!
Dennis & Nancy Isenburg
David, know that you are in our prayers. Also have you thought about having someone there in CA post a YouTube video from your hospital room which explains your situation/needs and then link back to this site? YouTube can potentially reach a very large population of people which may be willing to donate.
Uncle Robert
Doug and I are praying real hard for your whole family. We pray that your new set of lungs will come soon. Love, Doug and Eileen Yordy
