What does your donation do to help Ian?
Money contributed to this fund has been used for: Purchasing a wheelchair accessible van that Ian can now drive, a wheelchair for traveling out of town, a portable ramp to go over to friends houses, daily medical expenses that insurance does not cover, a vertical lift for the house to allow Ian to go upstairs and spend time with his family, outpatient therapy appointments once the insurance approved visits expire, and other things to help Ian “get back on his feet” and be as independent as any other early twenty year old is.
Ian has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live – The Leader in Fundraising Assistance and Support for Transplant and Catastrophic Injury in part because Help Hope Live provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to contributors. Contributors can be sure that funds contributed will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. For more information, please contact Help Hope Live at 800-642-8399.
Thanks for your support!
I'm currently fundraising for a trip to Chicago at the beginning of November for a conference of spinal cord injury professionals. While there I hope to share my story and inspire other professionals working to helping people like myself with spinal cord injuries.

I'm going to SXSW Interactive! I have the opportunity to travel to Austin, Texas in early March 2016. I will be presenting alongside doctors from OSUWMC and research scientist from Battelle about the research trial I am involved in to restore hand control to quadriplegics and people with other neurological disorders.
New Goal!
Ian wants to purchase a exercise bike for home use. This bike uses electrical stimulation to actually activate muscles in his legs to make him pedal the bike.
Just as it is important for everyone to exercise routinely, it is even more important for those who have experienced a spinal cord injury to exercise. The FES Bike will be a vehicle for exercise and motion for Ian to maintain/build muscle and prevent muscle loss, keep his bones healthy and prevent bone loss, improve his overall circulation (importantly for his heart and lungs), boost his energy and improve his overall Quality of Life for the one day that there is a cure for spinal cord injuries. Unfortunately these bikes are very expensive and not covered under insurance because it is seen as "experimental". Ian has used this bike at OSU before and you can see a short video of him using it here (https://db.tt/c87AD5NF).
The goal is to raise $16,000 to purchase this bike. Any size donations helps and thank you for supporting Ian.

Hi Ian,
Your openness to me to discuss the hardest times of your life is invaluable. Understand that these moments are what make you beautiful, unique, and millions ahead of you - patients, researchers, doctors - will stand on your shoulders. I appreciate you giving time towards my book. Please accept this donation for your time and efforts. I look forward to connecting with you in Chicago.

Hi Ian,
I found a video of your story on Facebook and it touched me deeply because my younger brother had the same exact accident as you 11 years ago (but he's a C-5 and C-6 quadriplegic) who lives in an under-developed country where life as a quadriplegic is much tougher. I live in New York and try to support him as much as I can. However, your story inspired me to look further and realize that there is hope. I pray that you always have the mental and physical strength and courage to continue to strive in the pursuit of finding joy, love, accomplishment and meaning of life. You will be always in my thoughts.
With love,
Dalilah

Ian, You do not know me but I had the honor and privilege of talking with your mother for several hours in person at which time I read some of your story. I am also a believer in Christ and after reading just a portion of your response to the situation in general, it was a completely humbling and inspiring experience for me. I can't even imagine the countless believers your positive attitude has inspired already. I think I am not alone in saying that God has and will continue to use your ongoing situation to motivate and inspire believers and non believers alike. As a side note, your mother was also a great inspiration to me as well
